Yes, as many as we can hit we're gonna do. You only need to do 9 races out of the 12 to qualify for year end points, but you can drop the lower standings of the extra races for more points. Works out good :)

I haven't got to ride it yet. First I sheared the flywheel woodruff key (Its all the torque, hahaha). Then just after I get some new ones I went to tighten up the front sprocket bolt and it broke off in the countershaft on me  so I gotta re-drill and tap that out before I can ride it again. Had a cold and haven't really been able to work on it but I'm gonna get back on it soon. I'll tell ya though, from the little I had it running in my shop it revved and sounded BAD ASS!

Funds have become very tight, I'm trying to get my mortgage brokering off the ground this year so I can catch up with tings then dump money into my bike.. Chances for me being ready for the first race, very slim :(

I am trying to complete the "list" as we speak. I am confident I can with some peoples help, get everything I need. I am getting with Alan this weekend for rear suspension kit and should have my tires this by Friday. I am also getting some rims from Alan to mount my shredders and will run my stock rims with golf cart tires. I am trying to locate a front tire. I have an extra front rim. Recommend a nice smooth or bald tire like Ronnies tri-z and I am good there.
Safety equipment I will borrow the chest protector from Curtis and will buy some gloves. Need a kill switch.
All I can think of for now. Will keep you informed.

Yea a bald tire would be a good idea if you can't get the smooth ones, those are like the dune tires and they are pricey also.. Getting everything together for a cheap price is key right now.. Good luck chevy, hope you can make it out there too

Mike if you can't find a front tire, I've got a front tire and wheel here that might work. Not sure if it holds air but I'll check and find out for you. Allan, you going down this Sunday? Maybe I could meet you at the interstate and you could take this down for mike or somethin? Theres also an open test and tune this Sunday at Thunderbowl I was thinking about hitting up, I really need to get my *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* dialed in pronto.
yea Im going down sunday, bily I will give you a call, mike a kill switch is only like 25 beans from a local dealer

I've got an extra kill switch someone can have, I had it on my 500R but I kept having problem with the button getting loose and killing the motor so I ended up taking it off and going to the Pro-Armor style, which is what I'll be using on the flat tracker. I think the old ones junk but if it'll help someone out in a pinch they are more then welcome to it.

What time is the session sunday? I might go buy the tires this weekend if some things pan out saturday hopefully. I'll still be with the +12 for right now try it out like that and then probably switch back to the stocker or go for a +1 or +2 for racing..
Will the tires be the main thing to deal with or will the bike need to to have the number plates, switch and stuff? I may just go for that extra switch you have billy if so.
Billy Golightly
01-03-2007, 11:46 PM
test and tune on Sunday is 10AM to 5PM from what I've been told which will work better then the races this saturday night(non league) because I have to drive home. For the league races you gotta have all that stuff, I'm gonna say for test and tune tires and kill switch would be minimal. Tires are the #1 thing. I've read many many times that they will not be allowing knobbie tires down there. I'd give the track a call if necessary to get the details.
dude oldsking, man you need to ditch the 12 inch swinger even for practice, your only asking for problems and/or possible injury, flat track involves alot of rider input, and when you go drifitng into a turn with a 12 inch swinger your not going to come out, as for a +1 or +2 that donst help you, I will be doing -1 for flat trackin, You also have to have, over ankle boots, chest protector, helmet, googles, gloves, tether cord kill switch, number plates, tires, over all machine lowered. numers need to be 8 inches.

I don't know how much gear/numbers are required for test and tune but tires, kill switch, helmet for sure. And yeah...definitely need to lose that swing arm. They are great for going in a straight line but its a serious hindrance and safety hazard on the track.

Yea the more I been thinking about it the bike right now is set up for a totally different ride, draging and trail riding really. I'd have to totally rip the bike apart for this and do the opposite of what it is now.. hmmmmm I still have my tri Z that I could get going but it would take some serious time because I'm missing a good amount of parts & money to get going; and a motor lol
Guys this season I may have to sit it out, that gives me time to find another trike to get ready for flat tracking and set it up the right way. I have the protective gear, tires I could get, but to rip my R apart I don't have the heart, she was bread for draggin haha I'm off the list for now unless I can find something in the next month or so. I'll take your advice too syko, might stay stock swinger or -1 for the races.. maybe a special powerplant too :naughty:

Hey no problem man...I don't want anyone feeling like they HAVE to be out there on hardware they aren't comfortable on and potentially getting hurt, thats not what this is all about. It would be cool if you get the chance to come out and at least say hey during the race or something. Would be good to put a face with the name and stuff.

01-04-2007, 12:19 AM
Yea I think I'll stop by for the first race of the season and see you guys rip it up on the track. I need to meet my fellow 250R and forum members in the Florida area and see what it's all about haha I always thought I was the only trike around sometimes because it's rariety to see such nice bikes like mine. I'm there man for a sneak peak on the following season

Okay I will look into a kill switch. If I cannot find one I will take you up on your offer Billy. I have a front rim and dunlop tire, it is holding air but dry rotted pretty bad with two plugs. Not what I would want to race on. I would like to acquire a nice front tire as this will give me a flat tracker set and trail set. I looked at the Carlisle website and found some smoothies but they are not the same size as the stock tire. Can someone link me to a smoothie?
You may remember I was getting a coolant leak, well it reappeared and looks to be a head gasket. I have the cool head so I will need to take it off to find out if it is an o-ring or gasket type. I will start tearing it apart tonight and doing my research. It looks like it wont be much of a problem to acquire what I need.
Billy Golightly
01-04-2007, 11:38 AM
Yeah the O-rings should be pretty easy to find.
I looked for smooth tires last night and couldn't find jack in an 11inch rim. Thats why I had to go to the 10inch on the front of mine. I will PM Brady @ Thunderbowl over on ATV Florida and ask about a knobbie front tire. How much tread is left on the ones you have mike?
Mr. Clean
01-04-2007, 11:45 AM
I would have to say about 50% on the one. Damn o-rings on back order from so far everyone. Ronnie gave me another contact number in Cali. 16 days and counting.

If you cant find one locally at a hardware place, Try Nacs Racing. http://www.nexternal.com/shared/affiliates/?CS=nacs&Affiliate=4&Target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexternal.com%2Fnacs%2FPro duct308
Local will be a whole lot cheaper then $20 for them stupid little pieces of rubber though

NAC's website says that the kit is not available at this time.....that is what I was thinking 20 bucs for o-rings. I will tear the head off when I get home and see what is involved. I always like to get the correct replacement part material and size but whatever it takes!!!

Hey, ya'll.
I've been reading through your posts in this thread and have a question.
What's the deal with the slick front tire requirement?
It seems to me that the organizers are wanting you to ride the quad groove on a three wheeler. I could be wrong, but from my experience that's putting you at a big disadvantage. If you're fighting to rail tight through a turn, you're gonna be slower than you could be otherwise.....bringing out the negative handling characteristics in 3-wheeled design.
The quad guys can track tighter at a higher speed with a lot less effort. I saw this in the vid(Bill). On that track, the sweet spot seemed to be a mixture of the middle of the track(for loose high speed cornering) and the quad groove for forward traction. In this line, a +1-2" swingarm would be helpful. Down low in the turns, however, you're going to push the front end if you're trying to match the quad's speed.
I hope ya'll take no(!)offense at my armchair quarterbacking here. It has been awhile since I was on the track myself.....after all. I'm just hoping to help.
As soon as I can get one put together I'll put my theory/memory to the test.
you have a sound theory there dixie, mainly the track orgainizers are worried we are going to tear up there track with nobies, and theres really no way to match a quads speed throuhg a curve, as we have to break loose and drift around the curve where they can jsut stick all the way through

I had a feeling they were worried about ya'll "tearing" up the track. Kinda odd isn't it, but at least you have somewhere to run.
I'd love to come down there and mix it up with ya'll, but my planned combination of Kenda Front Max and Hoosier Tri-Trac's(18x9x10) for the local speedway(Thunder Valley in Winfield, AL) might have to include a substitue front for that visit.
I tried looking up an old style Hoosier front tire from the "day", but I guess they've discontinued it.
Knowing my luck, I'd probably get frustrated and blow through a few turns @full lock just prove my point.....and promptly get banned from the track:lol:

At that track I ran the outside line where it was loose earlier in the day before the video camera was on and did OK, but it made sooooo much dust I decided to stick to the inside. The inside line where it was loose they kept coned, because the carts were racing the same night as us and they didn't want them to race over the soft stuff being thrown into the groove. I dont think Thunderbowl in Ocala is like this, and I'll probably be able to get outside of the sticky area where I can really break it loose.

Ronnie hooked up my cool head, so I will get that from him tonight or tomorrow. Put the motor back together. I may have some hoosier flat tracks for this thing with red label douglas wheels, I will know later today. I will have enough front tires to choose from by Saturday to shave some knobs. Syko will be sending me the dogbone to lower the rear suspension. That leaves me with kill switch and protective gear. I will get with Curits for the chest protector. Kill switch should be no problem either. I feel like I am on a show called triker build off and have this impending deadline.

 Welcome to the world of three-wheeler competition racing! I'm still trying to get my carb dialed in, going to tweak on it some more this afternoon and If I can't make any head way I'm gonna call ESR where I got the carb from.
edit: BTW, I got an extra chest protector, gloves, goggles, if you need any of them. Just give me a hollar.

Guys they tweaked the rules a teeny bit it looks like. In addition to the kill switch A rear numberplate is now required. It can be on the chest protector, or hung from the grab bar. I'll have both. Just a quick heads up
