Allright well I went to my friends house today and he tole me to take this bike,so I did.It does need work and once I find out what it is I will try to get it to a running and driving bike. Now that I am working I will be able to get parts and whatnot but first I need to know what it is. I got some pics of it for you all to help me.Its an older yamaha,Appears to have a dual shoch rear suspension, but one shock and the swingarm are gone, along with the rear wheel.. And it has to spark plug holes, but theres only one coil on it....(Maybe the other one was taken off?) Anyway heres the pics, please help me here, and thank you for the help..Also, I know its spraybombed but he had it for a while and no one said it was theirs so Im not worried about it..Here you go.. I have more pics just ran out of time here.. Ill put them up later tonight.. Thanks in advance..

DT1's were made in the early 70's like til 72 i think.

oh you got to plugs because early bikes would foul one and then switch to the other one so you only have one coil, its a funny concept but ask anyone that road from the 60's-70's on dirtbikes.

hmm maybe.. anyway on knowing the motor size? theres no stamping on the cylinder or anything.. And you think ebay would have the parts that I need to make it a roller? Also I the front fenders different on mine and I dont think theres any holes for the taillight assembly.. also on my engine on the right hand side lower cse it has like a little cover that screws on to it.. Any ideas on that thing?
EDIT: the vin on the headtube is LT2-107781 does that help any?

well I searched on google and found this website (http://www.off-road.com/dirtbike/machines/classicyamaha/) and I checked it out and it says "LT SERIES- LTMX Year: 1973 Start Engine#: LT2-105101"..Should that be a good guess on what my bike is?? also is there a way of finding the engine size still??

dude i did some looking for you....what you have it a YAMAHA LT2. it was only made in a 1972, its a 100cc 2 stroke on/off road bike.......to find parts will be a nitemare. prob better off getting yamaha DT parts for it since those bikes are plentyfull.

if you want to see where i found this out go to www.yamaha-motor.com and go into the parts section. it gives a break down of the whole bike. enegine VIN number started out as LT-000101 ...yamaha also made a LT2M, not sure what it was but its the same bike it looks per the specs, that engine VIN numver is LT2M-100101

you got a super old rare bike you got close with you seach but i just googled LT2 found out it was 100cc made in 72 and it matched up with yamahs online parts guide.

not sure if id keep that or not, it could run years and lots of $$$$$$ to fix it up nice.

well thanks for the info.. I joined another forum seeking even more information.. Im happy to know that it might be a good finding for me.. You think the DT parts are interchangeable?? If so than I can more than likely ebay what I need for it..

yes DT's are out there. i isold 3 this year alone. try to find LT2 stuff, you got LT3 in1973 and how knows maybe its the same bike all thru the years. you'd need to get a manual and see what the deal is with it. bikebandit.com may have some new oem/NOS parts left yet. ask around at any old yamaha dealer, you'd be blown away that around here i can still get NOS DT125 pistons and rings from off the parts shelf.....no telling what you find.

btw, it even gives the colors of tank paint on ayamahs web site so if you go to color-rite.com you may even find the real paint code!

awesome.. considering mine was painted silver.. and judging from the yamah site, it seems that the model of mine is a lt2m/mx..im saying that from the front fender and mounting design, its different from the regular lt2's.. Im definatly asking around here, want to get a rear swingarm and rear wheel and stiff to make it a roller and go from there..

Hm so do you think Id be better off parting it out on ebay or something? Its also missing the CDI box...Or do you think I should see if I can get it running and make it into a trike conversion? hehehe.... I really dont know what to do with it right now..

yeah you are right.. I cant seem to find the swinger I need for the bike.. the DT's go outside the frame where it mounts up,but this goes inside of the frame.. its weird.. that and the rear wheel is hard to find.. I put a monkey wrench on the kicker shaft earlier to see if its locked up and its not but it seems like its got low compression.. I guess it will be easier to tell when I find or make a kicker for it.. I want to see if it will run, from the looks of it it was running after it was spraypainted cause there were marks on the forks that took paint off, from it like compressing and such.. Idk maybe its from rolling it Ill find out I guess.. Anyone know where to get a swinger?!?!

i would sell it. dont even part it out because your killing a classic. try these vintage cycle web sites. this one is very good http://www.alp-sys.com/vintageads/index.php ive sold some macio *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* on here before. get a good pic and tell them what it is and you may be able to get $300-400 out of it. if you would restore it your going to spend at least 2 grand for it if not 3. of not keep it try to find some extra parts and then sell but i would get rid of it asap.

good luck.

well I was playin around with the bike today and used a wrench to turn the kicker shaft and with the plug out it gets good spark.. took the head off and it looks clean but theres some carbon buildup on the top of the piston. I wish I had the kicker for it I wouls try and see if I could get it to run a little bit with ether.. Ill tru finding one around here unless the bike sells..
