if you do it yourself about $300-600 with a new crank and nikasil liner.

An 84' kx topend? The price varies depending on how much you do yourself. I would'nt think that parts would be priced much different than those for any other bike.

well the crank is good it just sat with water
its nice and clean really and the top end just needs a hone and piston/rings? what would that run me?

with gaskets i would guess $200 if you do the work yourself. be sure that the rod bearing is good. if it sat in water it is most likely bad.

can't hone a stock cyl. its lined, strip and clean the gearbox, pull the flywheel and stator clean 'em up The ID on the cylinder says KX yada yada doesn't mean its a KX top end the kxt is ID'ed the same. If you've got to do a cly and piston ZSK on the other board has one (LA and Wisco) for a hundred bucks I think

you can't hone a stock kx and kxt lining with a normal honer, you will ruin the nickel-sil. There is a specail diamond very fine honer that you can use, but it is very expensive and has to the done by someone with alot of expeirence, as you want to do it very lightly, and you need to measure it after doing it, as you could have done it too much and casued too much clearence. Also whenever you rebuild the bottom end, ALWAYS use a new crank and bearings.

All 84-85 tecates and 83-84 kx crankcases all start out with those KX250------- prefixes. Cases are all identical. If its still a plated cylinder call max power or US chrome they can replate it for roughly 250-300 bucks. There are also other places that do it so check around. If you suspect the bottom end is loose grab the balancer and move it up and down or front to back. If you feel ANY play in there replace main bearings and have the crank split and new rod kit installed. Esr or ct racing do them for $150 and they do very nice work.

that is the way to go, then you know everything is good. Its seems like alot of money, but its way better in the long run to have everything new at the same time. Instead of nickel and diming it, and always wrenching instead of riding...

what kind of machine is it going in? So your engine has the k.i.p.s. powervalve, and straight exiting exhaust?

The 86kx and 86-87 tecate use the same cylinder. The 85 kx is different, but they all interchange.

I haven't picked any sense to this thread. He has a powervalved KX cylinder?

I have a SLEEVED KXT cylinder that needs a hone that I'd gladly trade you for that KX jug.

Got some pics of the inside of the KX jug? Send them to James_escortracing@msn.com.

ok

it sounds like you have a 85 kx motor. they are the same as a 86-87 kxt. that cylinder will not exchange with a 85kxt.

post up some pics so people can see what you have.

yeah i am lost hear too i think. clearification...83-84 kx cylinders are swappable with the 84-85 kxt cylinder. the 85 kx cylinder will not work on an 85 kxt, it is powervalved, "kips" and the 86 kxt is powervalved, "kips." post up some pics, then we could tell yah for suuuurrrrrrrrrrrreeee.
