Well, to recap on what was wrong with it, the rear brakes were locked solid and the kid who had it thought that the rearend was screwed. I got it home, gutted the brakes and was riding it around my yard. The kid tried to do what I did but ended up spreading the brake arm until it cracked and mushroomed the splines on the brake cam. Been looking for the brake parts with no luck when I spotted a85 TRX 250 rearend in my dad's junk pile. Took it completely apart and got a good brake arm off of it, and got the brake cam out of it. A little worried about the cam since it is pitted and might not seal off when I put it in. Probably after the first of the year I will completely rebuild the SX rearend. Kinda kicking around the idea of using the diff. from the TRX in my build. I know that it would cut my top end and increase my bottom end. Anyway that's how it sits now. Here's the "before" pics of it.:banned:

Using the TRX diff will slow you down alot. I swapped this diff along with the entire swingarm into my SX after killing my pinion gear bearing. http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=55740

I think the SX is torquey enough stock; the TRX gearing seems to make 1st and 2nd gear useless. With 25 inch tires I believe it will be back to stock speed and torque; I'm running 22's still, I'll test the 25's next summer.

Consider swapping out the entire swingarm, it's about three inches longer and makes hillclimbing far easier. (I'm assuming the 85TRX is the same as the 86TRX) You will have to fabricate a lower shock mount though. I currently have the TRX shock in my machine, but I think I like the SX shock better.

My second SX was also a $50 machine; I put the carb back on it and had it running down the street within two hours of buying it.

looks good for $50. And I blieve the TRx is the same as the BR rear, thats why it slows down so much
