i am just wondering if anyone can help with this.my outer clutch hub on my 86 r seems really loose.i tried to use a different gear on the inside of the outer hub.no difference.the outer hub still wiggles back and forth really bad.
so heres what i think needs to happen.it's like the inner hub and pressure plate are not tight enough against the outer hub.it seems like the inner gear is holding the inner hub and pressure plate out,not letting it tighten up.so if i grind the inner gear down a bit, letting the inner hub/pressure plate put more pressure on the outer hub,it will tighten up.now the probem i see is that the inner hub/p.p. need to spin freely.but will the washer in between them still allow them to do such?i know it's hard to explain.i think it will work, but not sure.can anyone please shine some light on this?anyone expeierence this before?
are you sure you have all the correct peices in there?

Brandon I had the opposite problem with my clutch on the flat tracker motor, http://3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=60503 You might be missing the washer I mentioned in that thread that when I took mine out I got a lot of play.

i got a honda manual,so i am sure all the parts are there.maybe this new billet basket is just thinner then then the oem?my problem is not the inner hub/pressure plate, but the outer hub,and drive gear.not sure whats going on,but i don't think the outer hub should have this much play in it.i got 2 gears,i think i'll grind one down, and see if it works,if it don't,i'll use the oterh one,and know my problem is some where else.

Ok, I think I am understanding this right, your saying that the "basket" wiggles back and forth right

I think what brandon Is talking about Is the center of the outer clutch basket. I have see alot of them loose on the big spline that holds the outer clutch basket to the center where the bearings ride. The washers hold the bearings In & set the clearance between the Inner hub & clutch basket. This will also sometimes make the clutch basket ring & rattle against the kick start gear when they get real bad.

yeah, what jason said, now hoe do i fix it?2 different gears with the same results.
so there is a washer in between the outer basket, and inner hub.that is what sets the clearence,so as long as that is in between them, things are good.but, should that washer be against the outer clutch basket,or against the inner gear?if i take that washer out, everything tightens up,and feels like "I" think it should.the outer basket has no side to side slop, and the inner hub still spins freely.so what do i do?grind the gear down few thousandths,or take the washer out?

Mine felt akwardly loose also just as "Jason" stated. I didnt like it......but, my directions didnt say anything about any other modifications. If you have everything in place and it isnt hiting anything..RUN IT.
