View Full Version : 1984 250r crank noise
hey all. my 84 250r is making a pretty ratty sound coming from the bottom end. i see bearing and seal kits on eBay for these but no crank assemblies. will this kit possibly fix my problem or would i probably need a new crank. i know the previous owners of this thing and its been rebuilt plenty of times. also the owner before me weighed about 300 lbs. and ran a pretty lean gas/oil mixture. any information would be very helpful. thanks

if it sounds like the piston's slapping around, the lower rod bearing may be going out. If you dont fix that before it blows out completely, you'll probably looking into a new bore and piston. Check out Hotrods, they sell a kit to rebuild your crank w/ new bearings, rod, etc.

Does the rattle go away a bit when you pull the clutch lever in? If so, its normal. Its just the straight cut gears on the clutch rattling on the crank gear.
I have another jug that was freshly bored .20 over to replace the 72mm one on there. So I'll try the main crank bearings and seals, and connecting rod kit with a new piston and hopefully be back on the trails soon. Now if i could just replace those bent forks. Thanks for your help
