I have a Banshee flywheel I'd like to lighten on my SB lathe.

How many thousandths can I remove safely from the diameter to achieve the desired results.

I see some "lightened flywheels" that appear to only be cut through half the length of the flywheel?? I don't know why they don't cut the whole length just not as deep. Maybe it's to retain the original balancing weights??

I would think It won't be balanced if I remove the weights and that would help the mains out too much!!

I don't want to ruin it.

the raised part in the middle works with the pulsar generater... don't remove them,thats the reason you only go so far when cutting the flywheel.. i take about 1/8" off ..down to 4.9 dia.,,, don't go below the radius on the back side
