86-87 Tecate. Getting it tomorrow, have Q's?

Going to buy a tecate tomorrow. Havent seen it yet. Its my wifes friends boyfriends uncles trike....LOL!!! Seriously though. Its just got a new top end done at the kawi dealer, not sure on the bore, but he said its bored out to a 300 or 330??? Any way to tell? Does this even logical? Also, what are some things to look for? The only thing he said is wrong is that the petcock has a very slight leak. Are these hard to come by? Id appreciate any replies.

Im getting this tomorrow, the price sounds to killer to pass up. If the it looks clean like he says, im getting it. I will have the picks up tomorrow. Please tell me what to look for on these, I have never rode or owned one. Thanks guys.!!!

maybe he was thinking more of it being bored .50 over and he thought 250 + 50 = 300 ???? but i suppose it would be possible???

Make sure it's clean, especally plastics, cracks suck and so is finding new ones. As for the bike, make sure the axle isn't bent, the bike actaully starts up easly (1-3 clicks the most) and there isn't any oil leaks around the motor or bottem end ( a sign of a cracked block)... Ask his fuel oil mixture ratio, and check the wiring, and signs of tampering or ripping wires would suck. Pretty much test drive it!

Check base oil, rad fluid, carb boot for cracks and tears, bearings and such. Start it up, drive it around and look over everything.

Sounds like you've made up your mind already. There's a 330 long rod kit but not from a dealer. Petcock most likely can be fixed. They are hard to come by a that makes them more expensive to fix up. So be prepared to pay the price to own a unique trike. Look for extended swingarm and axle, bent axle or forks.

So I take it these have weak rear axles and forks? I know all the basics to look for. I just didnt know if the tecates had any unusual know problem. Cant wait to see this thing tonite. Will post up pics. If I dont pic her up, I will gladly pon it off to someone here!!!

Check the frame real good for hairline cracks.
