I've been thinking about buying one alot like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SSR-110-Pit-Bike-CRF-50-SDG-Xtreme-Thumpstar_W0QQitemZ330071350619QQihZ014QQcategoryZ 100470QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

They look like alot of fun. I'd be mainly using it for my Michigan trips. There is a place we camp every year in MI, and all our buddys offroad in their jeeps and stuff, and ofcourse I don't have anything, so I just ride along. 90% of it is easy riding, its like a sandyish woods, with duney areas in the woods. I'm wondering if this will be able to putt me around on these trails. Most of the trails are really amtted down sand, sometimes switching to dirt.....then the dune areas are like...well, the dunes. I'm guessing it would because....well its 110cc engine in a 80 lb pound frame, but I want to make sure.

My friends and I have had a few of the replica CRF's and they seem to do well..There are a few problems that all of us have had with ours though but it didnt seem like nothing too bad..The rear spokes like to come loose and break off over time but that can be fixed easily, and make sure the chain is nice and not too loose, the cases liked to break on ours when the chain would come off, and 2 of the bikes took the points and mount right off too..Other than that with good maintainence Im sure they can last for a while.. Looks like a good bike to me.. Hope this helped a little...

Bassman, Don't buy a pitbike, your on a 3 wheeler forum, buy an atc70 and put a lifan125 in it. How many of your friends will have something like that. And if your drinking around the campsite, they don't fall over as easy as a pitbike.

A guy around here bought one, I dont remember what brand though(thinking SSR). His had the Lifan 125 in it and he was very pleased. His had a different style swingarm too. One of my good friends has an older 107 SDG, it doesent seem to be any better than the cheaper ones. Wiith not much jumping it has broken pegs, broken spokes, blown shocks. It turned into a p.o.s. very quick. I also would shy away from bikes with 10" front wheels, 12's atleast.

I want the smallest wheels as possible, and I would be jumping the thing also. It would basically be a beater, maybe even worse than that, like a stunt machine lol.

I am talking from experience when I saw that I personally think that pit bikes are a waste of money. They are very uncomfortable and with any serious abuse I find all my buddies reparing them. Not me though cause I sold mine before it fell apart. We all run actuall honda's also. I'm with vealmonkey on this one. Get yourself a "70" and either put one of the lifan engines in it or you could go the big bore route. I have my "70" and it is so much fun. The thing is rock solid and way more comfortable than my dang 50 I had.

SSR, Plister are both good pitbikes, You have to keep their chain tightened to perfection and the pegs mounts never line up (in need of small spacers). I say check it out completely and often to make sure everythings snug and tight. you might have to do minor mods (spacers and such)

taking that into consideration, they are a blast and worth the price

Riding in dunes or sand is almost impossible and If I was to grade it in sand I'd give it an"F"...don't even think about it

Why is it so bad in the sand? No traction? Can't that be solved with paddles?

I want a 70, but not for what I'd be using it for. I don't want to destroy a good 3 wheeler. Like I said this would be kind of a stunt machine. And I think it was uncomfortable because...it was a 50. Theres quite a differnce in size.
My buddys also all ride pocket bikes around the home editions right on carroll road, like not even 1/2 mile from the highschool. I can't remember the name of the edition, but its RIGHT next to the fair grounds. I went with them one day and we all had a blast. Nothing more fun than just all out racing around the block on these things. And because I live out in the country and I make frequent trips to MI, i've been thinking the best thing i could get is something for offroad use.

If your going to get a pitbike, dont get a generic knock off. There junk. I know this from experience, I bought one for 500, rode it around maybe half the summer. By the end the shock mount was screwed up and it wouldnt hold the bushings right so they went every other day, The seat ripped, kick starter gear blew out and it wouldnt kick over the engine. Also the engine wouldnt run at all because the carburetor was trashed. If you REALLY want a pitbike, atleast get a crf50 or a kawasaki 110. Dont get a chinese knock off, get something reliable like a honda and modify it. Theres just about every aftermaket part for the 50s you could ever want.

If you are set on getting a bike I think you should check out a used ttr125. You can find themm anywhere from $700-900 in our area. PLus there will be some resale value because it is a name brand and people know these as being reliable. Another great thing is is that you can get all kinds of aftermarket partds for it and its not that exspensive at all. My buddy has a couple of the ttr's. He has a stock one and then a fully custom one that he built. They are both very fun. Have plenty of power and you can actually jump these and go wherever you want. Oh, and you mentioned putting a paddle on that mini bike deal? NEVER gonna work. YOu have to have some power to turn a paddle and plus who knows what the trans. gears are made from? Might not hold up. PLus that in sand is not going to work if the sand is deeper than 1.5 inches!! You have to have speed and power to stay ontop of the sand so you can actually go places. I don't think that mini bike will cut it for you man.

You buy a $500 bike and you get what you pay for !!! I've modded a '93 XR50 with full suspension from an XR75 and a Zongshen 125 . Now I have an RCM 120
Full chromoly frame , removable heat treated aluminum subframe , 7" front suspension, 10.5 " rear suspension. I've raced it indoors at the Motoplex, outdoors at Trojan in N. Webster and have had no breakage

I run 12/12 for motard and 14/12 for offroad I'm 6' 220# and it fits me fine.

The bikes look like they're doing jst fine in the sand, and that's like the stuff we ride in except, with a little more dirt.

......i've pulled them to glamis and gordons and they are worthless in sand:welcome: ....,

I bought 2 of them you have to keep up on the maintenance.............they are good little bikes...

if you think they'll do fine in the sand around your place...go for it
