I finally let my wife talk me into moving from Deer Park ( where i have lived my whole life) to Humble ( which is about 25 miles north of me). first i was all for it until i went to go talk to the builders. In the area we are moving to they have very very strict homeowners association. As soon as thew lady said this ( she was acting like it is a good thing ) i refused to sighn the paperwork until she could present me with everything i cannot do in writing ( which she could never do ). I have yet to see the first atv, dirt bike or anything of that nature ( besides golf carts ) yet so i am really concerned. In my current home everyone was real accepting of all my toys and rarely griped. I am moving around a whole diffrent class of people and the more i think about it the more worried i am going to get. there is a world class golf course in the community so if worse comes to worse i guesss i could mount a golf bag holder and put some cart tires on the R and take up golfing. I am not sure what things to look for in the association rules when i get it.

ouch man!! I know the way I am I would be the first to get kicked out of a place like that, in Tampa, my house was ACROSS from a sub division that had that association crap, and they gave me a hard time!!! so I just couldnt help myself every day I made it a point to drive through the subdivision on the way home being load and obnoxious and then park my car in the front yeard of my house where they could all see it. and If I had toys to ride I would just ride them all up and down the road in front of my house and yard, It really burned them, up.

My first house had a homeowners association, but they were more of a joke. I would a $60 fine at least once a week. Of course i never paid them. Then when i was selling that home they tried to hit me up with a little over 10k in past due fines. I just told them " in that case i better stay " and they dropped the fines. HA HA, i miss that old neihborhood.

I am looking at houses right now. I will not move any where that has association that I have to deal with. I just want to live my life. I figure as long as you are not tramping on others right than what is the problem? Some of the places I work have H.O. Ass. & I can't not even work past a certain time. I guess it just depends on how you want to live. Do you want some one watching your ever move or not? Some of the HOAs are crazy. You also get bored retied people with nothing better to do than call cops or security all the time(well at least here in FL not sure about the area you are looking at) Nothing in windows certain, house colors are just a couple of dumb rules. But some people like to live that way so more power to them.

Well every new community has a association out here. The only way i can get away from it is too buy some land which i would love to do. But i spend alot of time at work asnd my wife likes to have the security of having people close by.

Stay the F' away from homeowners associations AT ALL COSTS! Just because they are pretty "relaxed" no does not mean they always will be, and it will come at a time when you least expect it. Personally, I aint livin in any place where I can't walk right out my front door and take a piss or go for a rip around the house at 2:00AM if I so desire, and you will definitely not have those liberties in a home owners association.

This is bad start, a really bad start. It also usually means you cannot have any boats outside, TOOL SHEDS, or additional vehicles parked anywhere on your property. Hell some HOA don't even let you mow your grass unless its with an electric trimmer! Be very, very, very, very, very, very careful

LOL I walk out my door to take a piss some times too or go for a paddle in the late night early morning or take a ride around on a trike.

If his wife likes it tough what can you do? A little saying I learned is "a happy wife makes a happy life, unhappy wife makes a unhappy life". Seroius though I am with Billy stay away. Just think you won't even be able to work on you toys. As soon as you start them some one will be calling to complain about it.

Well i dont have those liberties now, i am in the city. I cant crank nothing up aftyer dark and defiently cant walk out my front door and piss. I would have the cops over there in a heartbeat. Where i am moving to is actually more in the country then where i am ( you can see the stars).

Damn I have not lived some where I can't see the stars in a long time. I don't know how much it will mater if you crank up the toys during to day hours. If it is annoying to someone then they can complain. If you are a golfer & you like the area & don't mind a HOA then I say go for it. Just remember they can't even give a list of what you can & can not do. The rules are kinda just left in the air, so that to me seem like a set up. What can I say, I love living away from people. There are people though that would think I am nuts for living where I do. So to each there own. Just do lots of research before you jump in(which it seems like you are doing). Buying a house is a pain in the ass. I never realized everything involved with it until we started looking for out first house.

I have read the rules ( 79 pages worth ) and when it comes to noise they say see local law. Also when i am working on something i cant leave it out over night. That doesnt sound too bad. The town i live now is pretty strict on stuff. Also i here rumors that there is a flat track out there somewhere!!!!!

Damn man that is a lot of rules!!!! Ya they don't like things left in the yard or drive. No matter where you move I really wish you the best of luck & hope you two are happy. Being happy with were you live is the main thing.

HOA really do suck... We have once were I live, though they don't bug us for our bikes because many people around here have them and ride them.. There's soo much open land here now that it's not a problem, but in the future I'm sure it can be. I think hoa's do nothing but make things a pain in the ass. The rules and the FEE's are ridiculous, but when you have people who don't obey them I think they get what they deserve.

That would worry me also. My HOA is really easy going only time they get mad is when we start jumping the dam to the lake, it is a federally protected dam. Heck once in a while we have drag races in the vacant lots by my house.

I would got out there on a Saturday and drive around and see what is going on in the nieghborhood. Surely someone will be out that is near your age that you could talk to.

Life is too short to live like that. It is the simple things that make life pleasant. I would keep looking...

My HOA fees of approx. $350 per year pay for the up keep of our lake and the cul de sacs (sp?). I wouldn't live in an HOA if it was strict.
