OK, I've begun to disassemble the 1983 ATC 200 (no letters after it) that I had in long term storage.
I decided to remove the front wheel assembly first because of a BIG hole in the tire (25X12X9). The previous owner rode the bike at the beach so as you can imagine it is a MESS!
So, how do I get the axle out of the axle housing.....I've had it soaking in PB Blaster for a few days. I don't have the exact manual for this bike but if I look at the 200s,m,x I can conclude there is a bearing set at each end and a seal. Should the axle just pull out of the housing or are the bearings pressed on the axle?
Once disassembled, I plan to sand plast everything, prime and paint. I will replace the brake pads once I get the housing clean and honed slightly. Any recommendations on source for brake pads? Ebay stores ok?
I've included some photos of the beast. Also since these are the original tires and the front one has a gash that took 5 plugs and still leaks should I replace the tire and if so what is a good source? Or is it ok to put a hot patch on the interior and tube it?
All help welcome............
