Dammit!

I'm finally a member!
Called a guy about one on craigslist for 400 bucks. Turns out that one sold but he said he had another that needed put back together but everything was there. Said he wanted $150 for it. When I get there I find it's pretty much completely assembled with no fenders on it. He had the fenders in the shed boxed up. Much to my shock, he goes to the shed and comes back with a box with two BRAND NEW Maier fenders still in the packaging. :w00t:
He said it starts up but I didn't bother with trying. I just wanted to get it in the truck and get it home. Put some gas in it, turn on the petcock and it leaks like crazy. Had to push start it but it does start and run a little. Needs some carb work and that leak fixed. Doesn't sound like it's getting enough gas.
The exhaust pipe looks like it was made from old water pipes with some honda muffler welded on. The head around the exhaust port is messed up but overall it's in great shape for 150 bucks. Everything seems to be straight. No dents in the tank. I'm happy! :naughty:
Not sure what year it is. Gotta do a search and find that VIN system.

Any of the 70 experts want to warn me on what's going to be hard to find? I need to rebuild the carb. Are there rebuild kits for them? Is the float bowl o-ring still available?
How about the petcocks? Rebuildable? If not what is a good substitute?

nice.. i'm liking that exhaust pipe.. lol.... looks solid though.. i'd say the rear fenders don't fit with those tires like that... but it looks cool... its a keeper!

Petcocks are still availiable through Honda oem. 70s are cool and parts are no problem. They are kinda the new craze like the old Honda trail 70s were 8-10 years ago. Pull starters are the thing you need to watch. They get pricey, but rebuild kits are out there. Custom 70s are where you can really throw your personal touch on them. Have fun, cuz they're awesome little trikes that EVERYONE can enjoy.

www.dratv.com is the best place for parts for these little guys. They are a new fuel switch for lass the $20 if I remeber right. It looks like you got a great deal. I miss my little 70!

If you want to go with the original exhaust, I have about 3 of them hanging up in the garage. The $150 you paid would not even buy the new fenders you have there, super deal!!, not sure if it will clear those tires though, if you need a rear fender to cut up I have one also, or if you need the original rims I have a few of those. Me and my sons put 2 together and we still have 3 or 4 parts bikes in the back shed, one day when I get around to it, I am going to part them out or put a few of them together and sell them.

The rear tires/wheels will get changed out. I should have taken a pic from behind. The tires are the same brand but different size. One is way wider than the other.
I will be needing a pipe. Stocker or aftermarket doesn't really matter.

I recommend getting the clamp on air filter and do away with the airbox, cause most of the time the rubber boots leak and you chase down air leaks till your blue in the face. All the carb stuff is available there too. Get their petcock screen if you buy any carb parts, their screen is better than alot of filters, I run their screen with out an in-line filter and no problems.
Congrats on the find!
They are a BLAST! I steal a ride every chance I can (My 5 y.o. daughter HAS to learn to SHARE!!!) LOL

Honda rear hubs work, like 200X, I have 250x rear hubs on one of mine makes about 2inches wider, and a 4 on 110 bolt pattern. Also you can put stock hubs back on so you can use the 3 bolt wheels, both Douglas and ITP make wheels to fit the 70s.

I don't know for sure, but look at these pics. These are 16's, if you ran 18's they would be close. If they were just a knobby you might be ok. I'l get closer pics if you need them, these are just what I had on photobucket. I'll try to get ya a pick of that trick air filter from dratv.

Any updates on the little beast?
Here's pics of the clamp on filter from DRATV. This was the best thing I've done to the 70, cause the old boots were not in good shape and I had air leaks everywhere.

i put one just like that on too, my boots was jacked up on mine also. did you have to adjust the carb after you put it on?
i put these on mine, i think they are the stock size...not even close to rubbing the fenders...

that is some Industrial high temp silver a buddy of mine gets at a refinery he works at, i started usin it a few years ago on bike motors and its always came out looking good and last a while too, i usually do wheels with it too...:naughty:
oh, i was gonna tell you guys about some stuff i use to clean cases (aluminum motors)with, it comes from napa auto stores called "alumi brite" it has acid in it in a very small amount that it really works good on cases, along with some good oven cleaner....lol
