Here is some pics of the cooler in stalled.. The cooler is a NOS Lockhart 1975 KZ650 my buddy had sitting in his garage... I drilled and tapped the case for some brass break line elbows... Compression fitted some 1/4 inch break line to the elbows, after about 6 feet I got the bends right... Then another compression fitting to a 5/16 barbed fitting and some 5/16 hose... With alittle tweeking I was able to make a hose tie out of two mounts that hold break lines to a swing arm... Then I made the bash guard out of a master cylinder guard for the rear of a dirt bike... I still need to cut the headlight shell about 1/2 inch so it can be mounted... And I need to finish putting the bike together so I can start it and check for leaks.... Freaks

Won't running the lines so close to the header heat the oil more? I've only ever seen one or two setups like this so I really dont know much about them.

How about using rubber and running down by the motor mount and up the opposite side of the frame away from the head pipe. What did you tap into that has pressure to run the oil up through the cooler.

Ive never seen one done so im just learning as I go...
I was either run them on the outside of the pipe so they can get ripped off riding in the woods, and it wouldnt be as tight up around the neck then the headlight wouldnt fit.
Or do it like I did, and I figured if it worked for Honda on the 350X why wouldnt a "oil heater" work for me.... On the 350 they run inbetween the 2 head pipe's and then under them....
Didnt you sell a 200X case awhile back that was set up for a cooler? How where those lines run?

I couldnt run the rubber lines nice and thight with out kinking them and it was running more line than needed and looked like crap. I tapped into the main passage in the side case right after the oil pump...

why is an oil cooler needed on a 200x? seems like a lotof work for what gain? looks like you did a nice job though...if you're going to do it, you did it right IMO.

It's not really alot of work.
I can only justify it when useing a High Performance 200X Motor.I will be putting 2 on mine.

Any slow riding, trial riding or any high performance motor should have one. It drops the oil temp's almost 30 degrees. 30 degrees keeps the oil from breaking down sooner and lowers the possibility of scorching a cylinder or piston.

If it does pressue up properly then its a great setup for any engine. Like bigbore said, using something like this along with a really high grade of oil and not only will your oil last longer, you will have less worry about damaging anything in the engine due to dangerously high oil temps.

Here are some more pics of my "oil heater"... The lines arnt as close as they look nor are they as close as a 350X...
I just dont get automatic negitivity of some people around here, vs,, "hey man maybe this would work better, or maybe you should thy this first"
I also put up a pic of the Big Als 185 200 case saver, they fit pretty good... I have a new Mosh seat for it, and once the snow is gone I'll put the Hoosier's on it... Still need a nice set of nice fenders...
Not sure how much more oil it holds, how ever much oil is in about 2 feet of 1/4 (hard line) and 3feet of 5/16 (hose and cooler) line... I filled it loke normal ran it till warm, crimped the rubber hoses so the oil wouldnt run down and checked it and added as needed... Its really not much..

So just curious. How do you know you hit the right oil passage, and how do you know the rest of the engine is getting oil, and that it's not just circulating around in the cooler, and back to the oil pan.
I will be working on an X this summer, and it looks like a real sweet setup. I just don't want to be the guinea pig.

i installed a oil cooler back in the 80s to my 85 200x and thats the right [place to do it...look at your case it has little circle's in that area, well thats ware you drill
all you need is make sure you run a block off in between the 2 oil holes you drill
Howdy has this posted with pics.Do a Oil Cooler Search.

Thanks Edog I will book mark that for this summer. Can't wait to get my honda. It's going to be a project for shure. 83 frame, front end, fenders, tank, swingarm from my friend for about 175, and his cousin has a 200x engine with a bent shift fork.
I'll need an axle, rims, tires, and a seat, oh yeah and a pipe.
Should be fun.

See my little story in the post by; "Swigin" '200x oil cooler"
Any little air cooled motor (even stock) will benefit from one!!
