I always like updating components when I can and I prefer to stay stock as much as possible (can't beat Honda reliability/function). I have a new OEM throttle from a 300EX for my 350X and I'm now looking for a good front brake caliper. 300EX, 400EX, 450R...any ideas?

I'm also looking for a new clutch perch/lever. I may consider aftermarket for this....suggestions?

Finally, I would like a new switch assembly (run, lights, etc.). I'm thinking I will use a 450R one w/o electric start. I should be able to wire it up with no problems, right?

I'm also thinking about making my own switch assembly using marine grade switches. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks!

I read somewhere that an 250R front caliper can be worked onto a 350X. I would also try the 450R - kickstart model - on/off switch. I wouud get the electrical pin ends from Honda and fit the 450R wires into the 350X plug for a stock like replacement.

I just took a look at the 450R switch assembly. It has a hot start lever. Would I be able to use that? Do they all have that?

I checked it out too... Yeah you can use it and it would be perfect if you have a GOKI starter for a 350X!! There cheap but so are the 400EX ones but do they have electric start??

What about the 300EX? Thats a kicker start, isn't it? My point is, I know that the pin connectors can be bought - somewhere. The mechanics have them, but the parts guys may give you the hairy eyeball if you ask about them... Anyhow, by identifying and using the stock wires from any OEM Honda switch and reusing the 350X male or female plastic pin connector, you can plug in a new switch that does everything it's supposed to without any cuts or splices - into a stock 350X harness.

That leaves the door "open" for ANY honda start switch.

SO......will anyone please add something to this?
We need a Honda OEM on/off and run, on/off headlight and a high/low beam - no useless buttons. It should provide a sleek OEM look and function.

Someone can turn us on to a switch that looks nice, is currently available and a good price. AND the pin connectors - you guys know what I'm talking about....

Maybe I'm missing the point here, Why use a kick start model asselmbly on a model that may have electric start? The hot start button merely leans out the A/F mix so it can start up easy

But yes other than the hot start button you can use everything else on there. Another option would be off a dirtbike with a headlight

And yes go with the RTC Clutch, its like butter

Id be willing to bet that if you took apart a 450r switch all you would find is a set of contacts for the hot start button.I say it would work for a starter switch. If you look at a 400ex switch it's the same switch.Only the same button is used to start the engine.

let us know when you find those contacts. All it is, is a lever that pulls a cable to lean out the mixture so the engine can start easier. The 400ex uses a button, the 450r's is a tiny lever. Take a look at one and you'll see.

250sxwheeliepop is on it....a dirt bike switch assembly would work great. Anyone know of a newer model without electric start or a hot start button?

The hot start lever may ment to be connected to the carb, (I really don't know this for sure) but it can be used on a decompression system. I used the 450r switch assemb. on my 500 and used the lever to a cable to the backside of my cylinder for the decompress. its a little rough on the thumb, but I'm gonna make a billet piece for the lever eventually. It can be done.

I would try it Lou's way. I just went and did some looking at switches and the only ones that even have a headlight are the XL500 and they also have electric start. Go with the 450r switch

I used a 450r switch on my 86 200x. it is very simple to remove the hot start lever...take off the clip, pull out the pin, and the lever is off; now take it over to a power sander and sand off the area where the hot start lever was. takes @ 5 min. for the wiring I cut and spliced. I'll try to post pics later today.

I stand corrected thanks for the info wheeliepop.Ididn't think it was a lever because it looks so small.:)

Yeah I can see how you got that, I rode one for a few weeks which is about the only reason I know how the little bugger works. We all learn something new everyday ;)

here's a couple pics...not great quality. it's a pain taking pics of small stuff...get to close and all you'll see is the flash, no flash is too dark, and far away with flash gives poor quality...oh well. hope they help anyway.

The honda 250x should be the same as the 350x if your tryin to stay stock.

I have a front brake caliper from a 2001 Honda CR250 motorcycle and it LOOKS the same as the dual piston calipers on the 350Xs. You will have to use the original 350X mounting bracket but the actual caliper should work just fine. I'll take a real close look tomorrow. I try to remember to get some pics for you, too.

I'll look again, but I don't think there were any holes to block off once it was sanded flat.
