i have a question. i have a 79 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4. it has a 307,th350 and a np 203 trans case. did it come factory with locking hubs since the 203 is a full time 4wd. i think it didnt but im not sure. i think somewhere along the line someone put a part time kit in it. any info would be great. thanks in advance

The full time tcase didn't come with locking hubs. Mile Marker and Warn, maybe some more, made parttime kits for them to increase gas mileage and especially decrease wear on the front drive components. If your hubs are selectable then someone installed that. If they work and you can select 2 wheel drive then that is the way I would run. Better mileage and much lower wear on the front end.
And do yourself a favor and replace the running gear fluid with a synthetic fluid, front and rear diffs and t-case. That will further cut rolling resistance and increase mileage and longevity. Chris

203's did not come with selectable hubs. If your hubs are unlocked and you can still drive without the t-case being in the "lock" position, then it has been converted to "part-time" 4wd.

Dont use gear oil, use motor oil in the 203. Gear oil in the diffs. Part time 203's have oiling issues and should be run in 4wd often to help lubricate the parts that are no longer being splashed by the chain.

small bore, short stroke, and small valves... J/k... 307's are great engines, much better than a 305. They just dont have as much power potential as 327/350/400 based engines.

I would buy or borrow a hand pump, And buy the oil in 1 gallon containers.
