View Full Version : Ohtsu Tire Questions..?

I've been wondering about this since I got my bike, so here goes. When I bought my 250R it had 18ish inch tall (metric measured) ohtsu H-Tracks on the rear and a 22 inch knobby type tire (I forget what exactly it was but i think it was a dunlop) on the front. Every other original R I've seen had 20 inch knobby's on the rear and a 23 incher up front. The tires looked to be older than baseball and I was told that it had about twenty hours put on it in the last ten years (I bought it in 2002). I assume that the tires had been on there for some time. I know that flattrackers used these tires cause they slid so well. The bike, to the best of my knowledge, has never had any suspension work done to it and it wasn't lowered when I got it. I'm about the 20th owner of the thing, its been passed around quite a bit. Were these tires common aftermarket replacements back in the day? Or were they used primarily for flattracking? The only thing I found they were good for was donuts and hangin it out there in the corners. On wet grass you could barely get the trike to move, and you didn't dare crack it or the rear tires would pass the front in a heartbeat. Was this a factory option? Thanks in advance.

I have the same tires at home, these??? http://pictureposter.allbrand.nu/pictures/deathman53/IMG_0597.JPG.html, I rode on them twice, great for flat track, you will feel every little bump and landing from jumps is really harsh. I wouldn't use them for anything but flat track use, they either go straight or slide out, nothing in between. Those tires were sold in two compounds: soft or hard. I'm told the hard compound lasted awhile and soft compound were good for a few races and then junk. I have the hard compound ones. There weren't a factory option. A option to factory racers was a tire just like the stock rear tire, but stiffer sidewall and 18" height, they didn't last that long to be able to be raced, as the "normal" person couldn't purchase these tires. It sounds like you got a ex-race bike, you might have some more "unobtainable" items on it or very rare parts. Does it have a short track tank kit, yes, there wes 2 versions, the one anybody could get and the one factory racers could get. Also there was showa gold rear shocks and forks(that had rebound and compresion adjustments on them). There were different top tripple clamps too, the one I have on my bike, isn't like any other I have or have seen.

No gold shock or forks, or a short track tank kit. One of the previous owners must have put the tires on it. I've seen pics of the factory race trikes and they have the same (looking) tire package on them, but mine wasn't lowered and the motor was almost stock. It dosen't matter much now, I've polished everything, Modded the motor and its goanna get trail ridden.
