well im going to be picking up a 1986 250r here in a couple weeks and i no they are fast.... but i live for speed and i was looking at the ESR web site and seen the 380 big bore well my question has anyone used this yet? is it reliable? how was the over all performance? would i be better off to spend the almost $1600 on a cr500 conversion? well thanks in advanced!!!

Uhm.. 380? That would be a complete waste of money because you would never be able to use all of that power. Not to mention you'd have to buy a real long swinger and a new chain as well as get the cases machined. You would probably be going through clutches faster than you can drink a glass of water. I'd personally just get a 310 kit.. I'm sure they have more than enough power to quench your need for speed.

I'm not a power junky by any means but I'd go with the 500 for sure, I just think it would be more reliable.

Yup. If you absolutely need that much power, go with the 500 conversion. The engine has a larger displacement, and all of the engine components are made to withstand the power of the engine.
But I still say that 310cc would quench your thirst just fine.

i live in northwest ohio its all flat land so yeah staright lines and some trail riding is what i do thats why i was thinkin the big block big bore kit would be easier than a 500 conversion since its a bolt on kit you know.

Have you spent much time on a 250R? Get it dialed in with stock components and then do a ported stock jug before you move onto the 380 kit. You'd be suprised just how fast properly modified stock parts are.

I don't see a need to go that big, the 310 on my bikes is scary fast. I rode my 310pv with the stock swinger, it was impossible to keep the front wheel on the ground, with a +1 it wasn't bad. I agree, you will be suprised how fast a well modded 250r is. Replacing the bearings, rebuilding the suspension, good tires and with a wider axle, you will be very suprised how fast and well they handle. Be aware, that you might need longer swingarm with a motor like that and when you put them on, the costs add up quick, since you need to revalve your shock.

i have never ridder a 500 conversion but have rode the big ESR pro-x cylinders and unless you arent planning doing anything but drag race the bike it would be a serrious mistake to put a 380 in it .....i rode a esr 370 at the duners that had a +12 arm and it would scare the *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* out of you when ever you would gas on it ...was just brutal !!!!!!! but its your monney so do what you want just my .02

i really want, or wanted to do a 500 conversion, but the amount of modification, and time that mus tbe spent to pull it off... i dont think is worth it in the end... (personal opinion). a 370R or 380R are frakin fast... faster then you need to go lol... IAm a speed freak, i love to tweak stuff and get more power... IF i was going to go big bore, (already own a pro-x 310 pushin plenty of ponies) i would build a 350... a 370 or higher... will only provail in the torque output in my honest opinion... i have seen drag 350's run against 370's and the holeshot gets the win.... get a 310 dial it in and see if you need to go any faster...

You just happen to live near one of the better 250R tuners in the country. Take your stock jug to PR Racing in Toledo and ask for the nationals port job. With that port job, a good pipe, reed cage, K&N air filter with no lid and a 38 or 39mm carb you might not feel any need for an expensive top end or motor swap. It will absolutely crush a stock 250R and many, many highly modified ones as well. Guaranteed. Throw a heavy duty clutch in there too (trust me, you'll need it after all that).

you could buy my 93 cr 500- way too much to list- then part it out after you get what you needed
