Harbor Freight cordless impact wrench

[Dammit!]

Anybody own and use one of these (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=94855)? I need something like this for light duty. Wouldn't get used a ton. Removing the occasional stuck bolt on a trike and that's about it. Got a stuck castle nut on my 200x axle right now that I just broke a ratchet on. :lol:

I'm not sure how well that would do.. personally I would buy a pneumatic one but for small applications it should work.
I'm not sure if it will get that castle nut off of there though!! There was a castle nut on my 350X axle that took 2 days soaking in WD-40, a huge vice, a crescent wrench, and a 6 ft section of steel pipe to get off!

the only cordless impact that is worth a damn is snap on. the one you are looking at is under powered and the betteries dont last. most if not all electric impacts are not worth anything. just my experience and opinion. thanks. joe

if a cordless is your option i would stay clear of the cheaper made tools. i know people say that it is just buying the name but they are better. more but better. joe

The Snap On is way out of my price range unfortunately. I'll probably pick up this HF one and see if it can perform or not. I'll ask about the return policy first though. If it's too weak for what I need then I can just take it back.

I have a Hitachi cordless inpact that is 14 volt? Anyhow, it will remove and replace the lugs on 4 of my truck tires before it needs to be recharged. I love it because it will accept 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2" sockets. Works really well when stripping down a trike for restore! http://www.hitachipowertools.com/store_item.php?iID=278&arrPath=1,2,21,p278,
I also have a cheap chinese electric impact that I picked up at harbor freight, It is absolutely the best purchase I have ever made. I replaced the power cord with a 25' extension cord (I do this with all my power tools) and I never need an extension cord.

If its your only option, I would use it. Just purchase extra batteries and an extra charger, dead batteries in the middle of a project sucks!
Check out your local Lowes or Home Depot. They sometimes have tools that are discontinued or returned for pennies on the dollar. Dave

I hear the Dewalt works good, I have Snap On 18 and 9.6 and no problems with power on the 18v. Does everything from lug nuts to CV shafts, but any cordless is nice if it can change a tire along a busy highway at night. lol 4 way lug wrench sucks

Stay away from Harber Freight in my opinion. Theres a reason their crap is so cheap.

Heat - AKA oxy/acetylene will remove more stubborn fastners easier than anything else... I've got bolts that even my air impact won't touch without heat.

My son works for Harbor Freight. Just ask them about there return policy. I have not had any trouble with the tools I get but most are really light duty.

If you broke a Ratchet i dont see that gun taking it off.

I will second the snapon stuff but yes it is expensive! I just bought a 18v drill a couple months ago and it was $350 or so, I will probably never have to buy another cordless drill though.

i got that castle nut off with a beefier ratchet and a four foot breaker bar. I'm still thinking about picking one of these up though. I would think they'd have to work for light duty stuff like removing that pain in the arse clutch basket nut. I hate those damn things.

I had a harbor freight 12 volt impact for a good while, and it worked great for doing things such as taking on and off trike rims/tires, it doesn't have quite the power the electric impact guns do, but it was fairly stout, it had some sort of a clutch that would spin a few seconds and then hammer the nut down, spin up again etc. I did eventually break it, but I got my 30 bucks worth. It was awesome for things such as trikefest and riding trips, I could hook it to a booster pack and carry it around wherever.
