I just tried a 85 200x tank on my 81 R. It looks nice there but it seems the triple tree brings up in it when you turn the handlebars. I am guessing this could be remedied with the front end off the 200x. Now the petcock is in the wrong side not a big deal. Now comes the problem. The exhaust pipe goes high and brings up in the tank. Now I am out of ideas. How much clearance should the tank have from the exhaust. Might hack the underside outta it and weld it up. Also the seat and plastic seems like it wants to be boosted up away from the R frame. I have no 200x frame to go by but if I was a betting man I would say the frame rakes upwards on the x on the rear. Any one with any input. I think the 250r dressed as a 200x would be nice.

Thxs man. I want to make it look more modern unless I can get the fatory or aftermarket fenders for a good price.

Don't try to make it something it isn't.
Sounds like alot of mods just to get a tank on there. Don't they have an aftermarket tank for that model??

BigGreenMachine it was gone without the owner knowing after her friend sold it and it was suppose to be held for me unitl her friend got home with the keys to the garage. I was really pissed to say the least. I would love to have your machine but money is still tight for me. Unless of corse you want a 81 R and some cash, but I know you wants cash for your project aswell. Unless I can talk my Father into buying yours.

Its either gonna go back to stock look with some decent priced fenders or custom. I really didnt want a 81-82 style. I wants a 85-86 but they are rare around here. So it dont look like my buddies 110 I want to dress it up. I am not sure about an aftermarket tank for the 81-82. Would be nice tho if there is.

You know I bet Yamaha Blaster fenders would look slick on your R. They are available in white. Then a 200X front end because of the better suspension/skinny tire would be a wise mod. The 200X front end will accept a white 250R front fender or a white 350X fender. All that would look deadly in my opinion. The blaster fender would take a little modding to fit but not much I bet. I was going to use one on my Tecate.

Hmmmm, I'm gonna have to get Rieds to root up a set for me to try. I would say I am gonna end up buying the original but would like to dress it up a little. Still wants a liquid cooled machine. :(

Woah man, your almost at 100 posts on here. Safe to say your hooked! haha
Liquid isn't all its cracked up to be. I hate draining the freeze when it comes time to do internal work..LOL
Get yours running and you should easily make 1100 on it.

Ya I am hooked. I spend a nice bit of time reading and searching on here. Addictive personallity I guess. hehe. I just want a bike that runs cooler and liquid seems to be somewhat more reliable. I should be getting my taxes back this week so when I do it will be going together plastics or just a straped on seat. lol.
