I have about givin up on this thing. I cannot get it to run properly after rebuilding the carb. I've actually purchased another stock carb off ebay and tried that as well. It's popping and it hesitates when I hit the gas. I've tried the clip on every postion and the air screw in both directions.
The other carb (from ebay) is on there now and I got it to idle on its own but it's still idling rough. Before this it wouldn't run without the choke on. I moved the clip down to the bottom notch and it's still not right.
Besides putting a match in the gas tank does any one have any suggestions? :wondering

iv seen ignition problems act like carb problems....id check the stator/flywheel

What exactly should I be looking for on the stator/flywheel?

do you have an ohm meter? you'll have to test the stator with that. certain wires have certain ohm readings, and if one is low that would be your problem.

Yup and i got a manual too. :naughty: I'll have to check into this and I'll report back.
When it died a while back it just quit running and wouldn't start. well that and it threw the chain and cracked up the bearing carrier. Before that I just had to hit the Estart for a second and it always fired right up (no choke) so I dunno.. :wondering

did the chain hit the case? check the stator wires coming out from the flywheel cover for cracks or breaks

Mine did the same thing changed the stator and it took care of it. I rebuilt the carb so many times I thought the bolts were gonna get worn out

Chris,
Sounds like an air leak to me (since you said it wouldn't run w/o the choke). If you can get it to idle, try spraying some wd40 or something anywhere air could get into the engine (carb, head, etc) and see if the rpm's change AT ALL. If so,,, problem identified. If not,,, I have no idea... Electrical or in the valve train I guess.
One other thing that comes to mind is the air vent on the gas tank being plugged. Are you sure the carb is getting plenty of gas? Maybe switch a tank with another machine.

hey i have a lt230s and the air vent on the gas cap stoped venting and it ran like crap, shuting off at times. i found out by taking off the gas hose and seen just trikling out, opened the cap a it went to a full stream. i used a small drill bit and drilled down through the vent hole and have no more problems.

Well I can rule out the gas cap as that was drilled out a while ago and I installed a new vent tube tube. I can easli blow through both so there is no blockages.
I havent had a chance to check for an air leak as i killed the battery trying to start it last time. and I've been busy with my other project. That will be the first order of business as soon as the battery charges.
I'm leaning more towards something with the electrics or cdi. I picked up a decent multimeter but don't even know how to turn it on let alone use the darn thing! :wondering
It wasn't back firing or bogging before it quit. Can the timing be off? I don't understand how it can just go out of time though?

did the chain ever go through the stator cover on that? I had one once that it messed up the pick up coil.. that one mounts to the cover right?

the only chain damage I can see is where the carrier was busted up (on the axle) but that's fixed already. No other cracks or repairs anywhere else. the stator wire is in good shape as well.

hey im not sure if the 230e is simular to the 230s engine wise, (check with dealer) but if u have a bad coil inside the stator, u can just buy the coil and replace it if u have a soldering gun. cheaper than buyin a whole stater.
i had to get a new lighting coil for mine and it was $55. instead of $200.+ for a whole stator. the coils are screwed to the stator and the wires were soldier together. easy to do if u feel comfortable doin that (dont forget to use locktight on the screws).
just letiing u know in case thats the problem.

well nevermind, i just checked bikebandit and it has a completly diff stator assembly were nothing on its replaceable.
