I'm looking for a good, PORTABLE practice amp. Something with crunch...LOUD and preferably tube. Got any suggestions??

Here are some good places to find what you need. I would try out the Pignose/hog nose tube practice amp. Its portable and rechargable.

Mesa for sure :Bounce But boy are they proud of those amp's :(

I picked up a 65w Crate for 300 bucks that's decent. It's not a tube though.
I believe its the FX65? Its a decent little practice amp and still has enough to get up over drums if you want it too. It has a on board tuner and a multitude of effects. 2 channel with a foot switch.

if you want a true portable practice amp that sounds great, is light weight and portable, then I would go with a Peavey Blazer 158 Transtube they sound great for what they are. As mentioned mesa boogie is good stuff. but I think you should just get a fender cyber twin and throw some casters on it:) :naughty:

no one mentioned line 6?!?!? i love line 6's amps. i have a spider II 212 150w. all kinds of built in effects. i also have the fbv express pedal for it. you should check out some of their smaller amp for practice. the 212 isnt very portable. it weighs like 60 some pounds and its awkward to carry. but very nice

I have a little crate practice amp.. but their everywhere.. portable I have a marshall mini stack.. sounds okay.. Bass i have a Drive.. but I really like the sound of Krank, Marshall, Mesa or tech 21.. tech 21 makes an awesome little amp but your going to pay out your asshole for it.. alot more than most others.

I have a Peavy Rage158 15watt amp, sounds good, but I have a Ibenez pedel with it, has good crunch and tone.

I'm another Mesa Boogie fan. The only problem I have with the Peavey 158 is that about the same moment they get loud enough(for me), sound quality starts to hit the floor.

I did have one Peavy combo that was pretty mean, even though it wasn't a tube, or even a TransTube.

It was an older Special 112. 120-watts with a 12" Black Widow in it with decent effects ahead of it. It was fairly portable, didn't distort out when cranked, and loud enough to set in another room with a 25 foot cord and still hurt you.....all for about $250 from a local music shop.
