it's hard to say because of different riding styles and conditions. i'd say about 3-4 hrs.

I once burned 4 gal in 19 miles, lol. But that was with a cracked piston. We usually go 3-4 trips on the 11 mile loop before we fill up and we usually have a little left. This is running them pretty hard.

I would say about 50-60 miles of normal riding with a clean air filter and good running motor.

I ran a full tank of premium out of my waterpumper last summer in about 15 minutes when I let some friends take it for a couple of spins around his farm house.

i would say depends on octane of gas and how much oil you mix in your gas.

Higher Octane= Better Gas Miles.

Good Synthetic with help greatly.

Worst case scenario, less then 10-12 miles (I've done it)
Best case scenario, over 50 miles.

This is based on my personal experience with several 250rs.

I don't get many miles to my short track tank. Maybe 1 hour of riding. When I had my 4 gallon tank, depend on how I rode and where, it would be anywhere from 3 hours to 4. Most of my riding is motocross and I used the 4 gallon tank when I rode trails and fire roads. Higher octane doesn't improve fuel enconemy, higher octane has a higher level of detonation resistance, mainly used for high compression motors(190+ psi). Snythetic oil increases power and top end life.

More gas is burned with higher Octane.Lower Octane doesn't burn all it's fuel.

That's the way I have always thought of it.

How much gas you use depends on how hard you are on the throttle, jetting and how you ride. If you are easy on the throttle and gradual, it will last awhile. When hard on the gas, brake hard, then back on the gas hard, you will quickly drain the tank. Riding top end all the time will drain the gas quickly too. 1/4-1/2 its all the needle and pilot jet, above 1/2 the needle starts to pull out of the main jet and when the needle is all the way out of the main jet, its like the fuel running unrestricted, thus it drains the gas quickly. Here is where you jetting comes into play.

rich pilot sucks more gas, a rich needle lets more gas out of the main jet and if the main is rich, it will let more gas to the needle. Size of the carburator comes into play also, a larger carburator will suck more gas and provide more top end. If you want to keep good fuel economy, stock carb, low-mid pipe, stock reeds. Higher flow(high cfm) reeds will draw more fuel/air into the cylinder, thus draining gas quick, however accelerate quickly. The combination of high cfm reeds, big carb and mid-top pipe will drain your tank real quick. Also if your ignition has a really strong spark, the motor will act like its lean, thus jetting will be richer and fuel consumption increases too.

I can't tell you what the obtimal fuel consumption/power combination is. I mainly do mx, fuel consumption isn't much of an issue, more flow=more go and high fuel consumption is the by-product of that. I remember someone posting(trx250r site) about their setup for low-mid and the setup they used for gncc racing: stock pipe(gutted), fmf silencer, 36mm carb, boysteen reeds w/stock cage and intake boot, also stock ingnition. He stated that he could run a whole race on a 4 gallon tank and NO refueling, like others had to do. He did pretty well on it also.
