I just got a 2000lb winch for my 250 big red and I'm curious as to where to mount it. I would like to have it up front but I'm not sure if the forks (and head set) will take the strain of the winch pulling on it. So I thought about putting it on the back, but I don't want to lose the rack space. Any ideas on the prime mounting space (front or back) ?

i wouldn't mount it on the rear either, its only got the 2 bolts in the back, (and the 2 holding it downif you have those). Plus it will kill alot of space. I pull my BR out by the front rack all the time (rack is bent to heck so it doesn't matter). I havent twisted the headset or anything but my bearings are getting a little bad (this might be from running them a little loose for a little to long also.) My vote is for the front rack, as close to the headlight as possible (less leverage to break stuff)

There are many on here that have mounted winches on their big reds. I have one waiting for install too. You need to make a nice metal platform to sit it on with a lip on the front for the cable guide (if you want). Then you can use U bolts to mount it on the rack. I have an old bent rack that I plan on fixing. Then I will just weld the plate on the rack and put a couple bolts thru just in case. Then get a quad handle bar winch control mount for it.
