OK I know this may not be the right place to post this but i figure forks are forks and I dont really read the bikers forum...I have a friend who is rebuilding the forks on his 87 cr250. The damping rods are missing and one side has a shorter spring with a big pvc spacer and the other side has a longer spring with a metal spacer (about half the size of the other). would this be done intentionally as an improvment or did some one just jerry rig it? when he bought the bike last summer it rode fine no noticable issues. is this common?

Must have been rigged. There is no conceivable reason to only modify 1 of 2 fork legs. So, I guess he needs to figure out which fork's action he digs, then do the same mods to the other fork.

Yep, its rigged. He will probably wont be able to get one spring to match the other, pvc side might be a performance spring. Its not very expensive to buy a new set, I payed around $75 for my progressive setup.
