I have a new 28mm PWK for my 82 250r and it bogs and nearly dies when starting out. Idle ok, midrange is ok, at wot is a bit rich but can lean that easy enough.

My question is this:

Is my slow jet being lean causing the bog? I am confused because I took off the air box cover it helped a bit.

I ask the carb to be jetted for 4000 ft. Take a look at the jets that came with the carb.

Main = 152 (to lean based on black/wet plug and sputtering at WOT)
Slow = 52
Clip = middle

Do these jets make sense to you? Just trying to get a starting point and figure out this bogging issue.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

On the main, if your sputtering at WOT and the plug is black then its not lean, its rich. Lean would make the plug white or orange. When you took the airbox lid off you increased the amount of airflow, wich makes a rich mixture slightly leaner (rich=to much fuel. lean= to much air). I don't know much about those 28mm PWKs, the pilot (slow) jet sounds about right for a 35-38mm carb. What # needle do you have in the slide? If you remove it and inspect it there will be some very tiny letters steamped on it under where the clip goes on.

needle is jjh. What I need to know is the bogging or stalling when starting out a lean condition or rich condition of the pilot jet....or maybe something else?

Thanks
