3 out of 4 studs in my 85 250r seat pan that hold the seat to the fender are broken/messed up

Id rather fix them then get a new pan.

My idea is...remove all of the old studs.'

Get the correct size and thread bolt. Screw the bolt through the small little pin sized hole in the seat (i know itll take some work, but itll go. The head of the bolt will set it to the right length sticking out of the bottom of the pan.

On the bottom of the pan, remove some plastic out of the areas where the old squared end stud used to be, so i can get a deep socket with another nut onto the stud, to basically bolt it to the seat pan.

Finally take some marine tex or something, and use it to level off the area around the stud so the nut is securely stuck in the seat pan

Does anyone see any problem with this?

Also, do maier fenders come predrilled with the 4 holes for the seat to attach? This is where i forsee my only problem.

The 2 studs that hold the fender bracket that hooks to the seat arent perfect, but i think they will be OK. They were before. Im more weary about replacing those, but i might just to make it nice.

THanks,

Mike

None of the Maier's I've done have any seat holes predrilled, although they usually have a dimple where you end up drilling for a stock deal.

well i did this today and it was pretty easy.

Cut all of the old studs out with a dremel, cleaned up the square hole left. Drilled holes in the small pilot holes that were in the seat pan. Threaded in bolts into the drilled holes, tightened a nut down on it on the otherside, and finally epoxied all of the holes in the bottom of the pan.

Very easy to repair them on your seat pan rather then buy new.

Cost 5 bucks for epoxy and 5 bucks for 6 bolts, 12 nuts, and 12 washers.
