Hey.... well the last person that owned my 86 must have had sandpaper knees cause he had a 4 inch wide, 8 inch long bare metal streak down each side of the tank... so i'm going to paint it soon with good automotive paint with hardener and such..... but i've got a few questions before i attempt this.....

How do you go about painting over decals??? Preparation steps or a link to preparations would be helpful....

They have such a wide variety of decals on ebay..... I have no decals but the one on my airbox lid... so the wing decals will be the only ones.... Anyone see a decal that would look awesome on an 86 200x??? i could always go stock but i was kind of leaning towards the ones that look like parrot wings...

Other random questions.....

Whats a good, commonly found octane booster???

What causes a clutch to get "grooved"?? how do you avoid this????

What exactly is a "glazed" cylinder??? is this a bad thing or a good thing??? is an "unglazed" cylinder BETTER???

Can you run a 15 tooth sprocket on an 86 200x and have enough clearance between the sprocket and the case??? If so, whats a good, cheap place to buy one???

when people get bigger carbs, do they have to bore out the intake boot too?? or does the bigger carb just force more air/fuel through the stock boot???

ok thats it for now... thanks!!
and if you all are just going to laugh at my questions, go laugh somewhere else.. i'm just trying to learn as much as i can...

I would recommend removing the old decals before you paint. For the octane booster STP works well, but for the cost of the bottle use might as well just pay the extra 10 cents a gallon. Glaze is bad and if your cylinder is it time for a re honing and new rings. That is all I know myself. Good Luck!

- strip tank completely before painting, syko might be able to help you out with tips on this, id just blast it.

-stickers is up to you, ill be using the stock ones in my build, but its all preference

-ive used some booster before in my raptor and it seamed to make a diffrence, not sure of the brand but it was the only one in a bright orange bottle

-your basket gets grooved from ridding your trike. because of the slop between the tabs on the disks, and the basket fingers, every time you accelerate the plates get thrown into the basket and eventually grooves form. the plates need just the slightest bit of space between the tabs and the basket so than can move in and out so an absolutely tight fit is impossible. Solution- dont ride, or buy a billet basket, there supposed to last longer.

-ive always known "glazed" to be when the walls of the cylinder become so smooth, that oil has no edges (the cross hatching created by honeing) to be pulled up by the rings. therefor there is little oil on the cylinder wall, and the rings dont seal well. If im wrong someone tell me, but from my knowledge...BAD

-no idea on the sprocket

- i would think there is no point in getting a larger carb without moding or making a new intake, but again, someone will probably disagree.
