i bought a 42 tooth rear sprocket for my 85 350x and a new 13 tooth front sprocket, now the stock sizes are 13 and 40 with a 520x90 chain which is what i have now, i want to get a new chain so i dont ruin the new sprockets, and im wondering if i need to get a longer chain in order to fit the larger sprocket in the rear, if so how many more links do i need to get or do i even need to get a longer chain???

i would say a 95 or something around there would work fine. dont those things have chain adjustments?

yea you can adjust the chain, but im not sure how much or if i can compensate for the added size of the sprocket.

i would go with a 94 or 95 tooth it its to long you could always cut a couple links off.

i would say a 92 but go with a 93 link, cause that way there if its too big just take a link out

not a problem i faced the same thing when i put totally different sprockets on my 200s. i just hope a 95 would be long enough.

Rocky Mountain ATV says "if adding two teeth to the rear sprocket, add two links to the stock chain length"

yeah 92 should work... usually i buy an extra 2 links since it usually only costs a dollar more.. rather than send a chain back to get another link or 2....
