NO thats a very rare find perhaps the only 1 in the world. how cool would it be to be the only person to say "i have a 85 250r three wheeler that was never ran it is in the condition it came from the factory!" preserve the piece of history three wheelers will probably never be made again and that will be the only origional never ran three wheeler

11 years ago I ran into (2) 1986 250R's that were brand new in the honda factory crate for sale in palm springs, ca. The guy only wanted $2300 each for em!! I try to forget about that deal but threads like this give nightmare flashbacks.

Yeah...I was about to say...

History is history

Get something that can be replaced. You can't replace something that rare.

I would replace all the OEM pieces will some aftermarket stuff and ride it on a rare ocasion. Definatly not beat it, theres no possible way I could ever do that to a machine like its said to be.

New 250R's just dont grow in the garden guys...If you want to ride one open the paper and pick up a used one for $1K or so.

Not to take away for the thread but I was b.s.ing with local parts guy at our honda dealership. I said I'll take a plug for a 85 250r and the new 86 250r you have in the crate in the back and to my suprise he said we don't have a 250r but we do have a 86 200x. I think it is cool and heck there are a few new trikes hiding out. They also have a bunch of vintage street bikes and dirt bikes that are new or mildly used in moving van trailers out behind the dealership. Oh I would leave it as is and look at it.

ATC-Eric

but we do have a 86 200x.

Did you ask them how much?

NOS_350X

Id ride it, Im not the kinda person that lets stuff sit there. Thats also the reason i dont buy stuff thats rare or in super condition like that.

I would build a dehumidifier for it and store it at room temperature at least 500 yards beneath the desert......

really - what would you guys pay for it? I would not go 7, but I am broke.....

200x $? PIX?

Or even better, find one that is a total POS and put some blood, sweat and tears into. Get it looking like new and running like a bat out of hell. And have that satisfaction that every man should enjoy at least once in his life.

They told me the 200x is not for sale they kept it 20 year so they don't need the money.

Gunnar

7 grand is awfully expensive for a decoration. I wouldnt pay that much. But then again Im not wealthy. For that much you could have a fleet of trikes you wouldnt mind using. Plus with my luck Id probably get slammed by some jack hole while trailoring it back to my place, or something els that would fall under murphys law would happen.

Its been there is entire life and probably will stay there. It would be better just to sit and look at, to get it running it would take a complete motor tear down and iam sure it would need new parts. Even if its been in doors I am sure that it has some moisture that got inside and who know what you would find.

Displaying it is for a person with lots of spare cash. Common poor slaves like us IF we could afford it should save the mint cosmetics, toss on some MAIER plastics and ride the hell out of it. It's meant to be ridden whether it's new now or was new 21 years ago....

the guy that ran east coast atv got a 87 trx250r, I think a 86 trx250r and some 250r trikes that were almost like new, he got two of them from a lady whos son owned them and something happened that caused him to never ride them and eventually passed away. He found all of the never run bikes in pot-luck adds in the paper. I seen pictures of these bikes, they look like they left the dealer and went into a climate controled storage unit, they are that new. A friend of mine told me that a few years ago at the swap meet over here, there was a guy selling Marty Hart's 85 atc250r, he wanted something like 8 grand for it, but it would be a nice collector piece none the less. You never know what you find , its all about the right place and time.

I would leave it in the original crate,etc...
as with other collectibles, once you open the package the value decresses...
I would open it,take pictures,check condition,oil parts if necessary.
then close it back up.
put it up and buy one to thrash....

I saw add's on ebay this year (2007) for Tri-Z parts, in the add were picture's of a crated 86 TRI-Z. I dont think we'll se either in England though :( :( :( American seller i think ?? I dont think anyone should ever ride a bike that's still in the crate, personal view only though.

Dirtcrasher
11-23-2007, 03:41 PM
I saw that too....

Thing is, having and being able to LOOK at a mint new ATC is great. But it's only great to talk about or think about here and there. I have so many memories riding my toys that no matter how mint they ever get, I'm gonna ride em.

Unless I ever get rich, I'll be riding anything I get my filthy paws on!!

Me too...I can't stand show queens... They make me sick.... But in the case of an actual showroom condition un-restored machine or new in the crate.... I think it should remain un-ridden... and reside in a public museum or showroom....

Dont get me wrong, i like to see a bike being used for what it was intended BUT we didnt get that many trikes in England. So a mint one never riden or a crated one is realy worth keeping that way.

Back to the original thread - $7000 in the UK is only £3400 today (nov 07), so i think it's worth every penny !! But only to be looked at !! I'd pay that for it if it was in theUK.
Also what did a brand new 250R cost in 1986, and what is that amount of value worth today (ie , what did a candy bar cost back then and what does the same bar cost today) . And by comparison what does a new CR250 and TRX 250R cost ?? I'd like someone to reply to all that so we can all see what these cost's are , only then could you work out the true value of a new condition 250R and it's added value to an enthusiast. Sorry if i bored any one.

And where are the pictures ?? :pics: :pics: :pics:

If I had one that was never ridden or extremly low hours there is no way I'd take it out and ride it, it's nice to have a few around that are like that, and if I'd sell it surely I would be very particular as to who would buy it.

There are 100's of R's out there, why take a perfect museum piece and scratch it up ?

This one survived all these years, if there really is one, it deserves to stay that way forever.

Didn't see at 1st that this is a old post, as usual, probably not true anyway.
