First post...
I have a 83 Yamaha YTM-200K...since new...and I live in Tucson AZ.

What harm or damage can happen if the "decompression linkage" is disconnected?

Litte History:
my pull starter wasn't work the other day (spring came disconnected), took it apart and decided to leave out the decompression gear (missing a tooth) and it's attaching parts...so, the decompression linkage is disconnected. It starts just fine and seems to run OK.
thanks for any input.

as far as I know, my 200e don't have a decompression mechanism

yea wont hurt anything, it will just pull a little harder. My honda 200s is the same way. Im not sure what the yammie's are like, but on hondas there is a hole going though the recoil housing that needs to be sealed up if you remove the compression release parts.

It will pull harder and you will put more stress on the pull start components making them wear out faster. The other YTM's have a manual compression release, Yamaha probably didn’t bother with the automatic release because the other YTM's have electric start so the pull start is not used as often and because of the starter gear there isn't as much room for the pull starter to have the added compression release mechanism.

Of course I say this but mine is not hooked up. I have not had a chance to put in the decompression parts yet but I will soon as I don’t want to wear out my new pulley.
