:welcome: to the boards!

One of the eaiest ways to figure out what year if it hasnt been modded out, is to see what color it is. If its yellow and black, its an 85. if its black and red, its an 85 1/2. if its red and white, its an 86.

I do believe the swinger bushings are the same for both years. When you are sure, you should hit the member DADS up here on the boards. Just do a search for his user name (Dads). He sell good bearings and bushings. Just make sure you dont buy the ebay crap!

Once again welcome to the boards. Now post some pics of your ride!!!!

Well there in lies a problem as i dont have plastics for it and the frame has been black, yellow and even pink. Its still in bits and ive just had it back from the powder coaters, got it done in silver as im going away from the yellow and black theme. Ive been told the bushes are different for the 85 and 86 hence why i need to find out.
Thanks for the welcome fella

Seems I heard that if the coolant rezzy sits on the left side of the frame, it is an '86, but I don't know how to tell if it just got back from the powdercoaters!

Oh, I know. the code for the 85's is 38w. The code for the 86's is 1xr. you can find these numbers all over the bike, includeing the numbers on your motor.

Good luck!

EDIT: the 86 is s 6 speed, and the 85 is a 5. Hope all this helps.

The 85 1/2 was a special addition they released half way through the year.

You say the frame was yellow once, and the coolent resivior is in front of the tank, that leads me to think its an 85.

The numbers on your motor are right next to the jug, on the case. I do believe its on the flywheel side. Could be the opisite side though, cant remember without the bike in front of me. But their on the top right next to the cylinder.

85 was yellow and the 85 1/2 was black

I don't think there was any difference between the two as far as the frame, so you can consider your frame to take the 85 parts if they are different than the 86.

Kris. Can you post a pic of the top of your swingarm.I can tell you what year you have. The swinger bushings were smaller for the 86 models, and larger for the 85 swingarm. Also,Get a pic up of one of your a-arms and We will see what you have.I will see if I can get the a-arm bushings for you too.

As you can see from the pic of one of the a-arm bushes maintenance wasn't high on the previous owners list of things to do
