I have a 82 Kawasaki KLT 250 I was trying to get rid of, but nobody seemed interested. Now I am trying to fix it up a little bit. I took the carb off to clean it, and after putting it back on, the trike won't start. If I spray ether into the intake, it will fire up for a second, then shut off. I don't know much about trikes. This is my first. I pulled the fuel hose off right after the fuel filter and tried cranking it, and no fuel came out, so I thought it might be a problem with the pump. Then my buddy suggested the pump may run off vaccuum, so it wouldn't put out fuel if the hose is disconnected. Can someone give me some pointers? Like I said, I don't really know what to look for. Thanks.

Got it running today. I think the fuel pump is going. The problem was the fuel took a very long time to get to the carb. The filter looks good. I am having a problem getting it started now though. It takes a while, but once it starts it runs fine, idles fine.

When you took the carb off did you clean out all the jets? I don't own a Kawasaki but I'm sure the fuel is controlled by vacuum. Try it without the filter and check your gas cap and make sure it is venting like it should be. You can also try it without the gas cap and see if it starts up faster.
If the fuel is having a hard time getting to the carb, then it seems like it would be either the filter, petcock (there should be a filter in there also), gas cap not venting, or just a plain 'ol dirty carb.
Try this and post back.

I don't think mine is electric. Bike bandit gives a layout of my pump, and it shows no electrical anywhere. I also didn't see any on my trike. About the carb. I did indeed clean all the jets, although they weren't too bad to begin with. Should I consider upsizing the jets? I will try a new inline fuel filter as soon as I get my check. I will also look into whether or not there is a filter in the petcock too. Thanks guys, for all the help. I'll keep you updated on the progress.
