View Full Version : 85 and 86 Tecate Swingarm Comparison

Here are some pics of my +2 Champion vs my 86 stock aluminum Tecate swingarm.

They are almost identical in length. The aluminum 86 is slightly lighter then the chromoly Champion.

The dogbone mounting location is offset on the 86 T3 vs the centered mount of the 85.

The 86 dogbone mount is also located further forward then the 85.

I kinda wish I had my money back from my Champion purchase because I'd of modified an 86 to work on my 85. It would be a +2 respectively and much lighter then stock and most aftermarket swingarms available.

Someone needs to build some nice new swingers for the Tecate.

so you would have to mod the dogbone mount back like 2 inches right? and you would also have to use the 86 carrier and axle with the brake set up as well i would imagine.

Not sure, I think the 85 parts are useable as long as its the whole 85 rear end.

BGM is that one of those ebay swingarms that was for sale about 6 or 7 months ago? Looks pretty good, but the aluminum 86 one is really cool. You gonna try it on your 85?

I would think with the mount far back like it is on the champion it would rob some of your travel causing the shock to bottom out earlier than if it was further forward. sound right to anyone else?

Ccdhowell, its an original Champion +2, the design they copied.

Tecatecrazy, makes sense to me. Wondering if the mounting location on my Champion is any further back then stock. I assume its in the same location and will give the stock travel.

The distance is 10" from swingarm pivot on my stock '84 swinger... You probably want the distance to match whatever cushion lever ratio you have..

That may be a good thing with an extended swinger... there isnt much point to having more upward travel than ground clearance... and it may help counter the additional leverage on the shock...
