without the tool...is there an easier way to tighten the chain on an 84 250r trike?
well.... some tools will be needed, lossen the alen head bolts remove the center bolt spread the housing apart alittle with a screwdriver in between the alen head bolts then with a long 3/8 extension and a hammer hit the notches on the right side to lossen or tighten, then after you get the chain where its tight for you, tighten all the bolts back up and ride out!

If you do not want to hammer on the notches, then stick a screwdriver or pry bar through the holes in the sprocket into a notch on the carrier. The carefully roll the trike forward or backwards and the carrier will move.
Tighten everything back up and you are good to go.

what will make this method even easier, is if you make your ho's to do it for you!
