Well I got the motor pulled in the X, and I must say that it doesnt look too shabby, but I wondered what you resto guys did to rid the grease and grime from your powerplant. I was thinking about using a mild degreaser (purple passion or something), then a mild detergent (dishwashing soap), and then lastly before paint - windex or watered down alcohol. Any method or help appreciated!!

When I wash all the grease/oil off I usually use a generic grease/dirt remover, then wipe everything down with some simple green. But before painting anything I wipe it all a degreaser then get all the dust and dirt off with a towel. Anything really works, just not anything to harsh to hurt your gaskets.

good question Pro. I am going to be doing mine soon too. What about using a pressure washer after the cleaners ( whatever you use ) or is that to strong of pressure?

I use a pressure washer to clean my ytm-200 engine. I just let it idle while i did it. No problem.

i believe it was bryan who told me to use oven cleaner and that worked better than any degreaser i have ever used. Purple power is a good second

Gunk degreaser then took it to the pay and spray carwash. Clean as a whistle.

My ol' man told me about the Gunk stuff, Ill have to check it out. I read somewhere about the oven cleaner, but as super90 said, I dont want to eat up the gaskets that dont need replaced...

I spray it down with Purple Power and scrub it with a stiff brush, works great, I haven't met my match yet :D Simple green is pretty good stuff too. Before paint, I wipe it down with some brake cleaner and paint away!
