i used to own an '84 big red and had to sell it last summer because i needed the money. it was alot of fun....actually had it licensed for street use in Montana when i was going to school there!!!!
ive been searching around for another good ol' atc and stumbled on an '83 on craigslist. he had it listed as a 110 but i knew it was either a 185 or 200 from the frame....although i wasnt sure if anything had been swapped out in the last 24 years. turns out its a 185 motor on it, BUT he also gave me a spare motor he had laying around...which is a 200.
so, as it sits at the moment the 185 motor is in the trike and runs really well. i started to pull apart the 200 motor today to find out what, if anything, is wrong. well, its not seized and everything looks to be in good shape...all it needs is a cam chain as that was broken.
so to get to my questions....what seperates a 185 from a 200? bore? stroke? both? basically, i was hoping i might be able to pull the cylinder, piston and head off of the 200 and put it on the 185. is this a bolt on job? or am i better off fixng the 200 up and installing it?
if ive done my research correctly (not much research but a little so far), it seems the 185 and 200 are the same head??? that got me thinking the stroke is what seperates the two.
future plans for the new toy: its just some wheels to get me to the ice shack in early winter, play around at the cabin on the trails/land, but no real hardcore riding. im thinking i want to do a port job, 200x cam, 24mm carb, exhaust and intake.
sorry for the long post but i figured i better give you more than enough info. i appreciate the help and let me know where im wrong and what else you may need to know...
