Hi Guys
I got atc350x frame and some other parts(a complete parts bike) off this older guy that had it sitting around for the last 12 years or so. Anyways, the frame # is JH3TE0807GM1.... It says its a 86 on the frame tag but it doesn't match the frame vin#'s on the spec sheet here on the board. I am assuming the "G" stands for 1986 ? Also, what does a bare 350x frame weigh? I am having the guy ship it to me and he says it weighs atleast 45-60lbs. Is this true? It can't be? Maybe I am wrong about its weight? I ve never handled a bare 350x frame by itself before. Does anyone know what the weight is for a bare frame? Sorry, the frame has the air box , light and wiring harness on it so that could add a few lbs. Any info would be great.
Thanks 350xman

Hi Guys
Thanks for the replies guys. Team red rider you said that is 35-40 to ship with DHL and you meant 35-40 lbs or did you mean $35-40 for shipping? The guy shipping it want to ship the motor in the frame as well but I know that Fedex only takes up to a 150lbs for ground shipments and then it has to go by Freight and then the price goes up by about 4 -5 times more for the same amount of lbs. I know the 350x motor(dry) weighs about 95-100lbs. So, if the bare 350x frame weighs 35-50lbs then it should be close to that magic 150lb max mark for Fedex ground shipping. If anyone knows th exact weight of a bare 350x frame then please reply.
Thanks 350xman

Hey 350xman, I can tell you the 45-60 lbs is a big exaggeration by grandpa's shipping weight. I've shipped quite a few 350x and 250r frames, but they went UPS. UPS went by dimensional weight, meaning estimated weight by the box size. I could ship a bare bones frame via UPS for $24.00. I think their rates have gone up since though. Just guessing, I'd say the weight of a bare bones x frame is 25-30 lbs. Also, if you go UPS, if you make the box much bigger than the frame, it will run you about $90 to ship because then it is classified as "Oversized 1 or 2". That sux. If you have the guy just wrap it in cardboard, lightly pad the triple tree tube and lightly pad the two grab bar horns, it will be JUST UNDER their "Oversized" category. I took my frames to a UPS drop off location and they never did weigh the box, they just measured the L x W x H of the box. Also, I tried to ship one wrapped in just shrink wrap. Didn't work. They wanted to nail me for something like $110 because it wasn't a "stackable" item in the truck. It would have taken up much more space since nothing could be stacked on it. If it's wrapped in cardboard and kept SOMEWHAT square in shape, they'll accept it. Doesn't have to be fancy. I shipped one with a about 10 sheets of cardboard taped together to resemble a box. I do know if it's just wrapped in cardboard and shipped w/engine, it will NOT exceed the 150lb mark, my guess is 135 lbs. But also please keep in mind that the heavier the item, the more prone it is to damage in transit. These handlers don't care about our precious gems. They'll throw, kick or do whatever it takes to move our boxes around. Good luck man

I was wondering if you"atc4everbob" remember what the L x H x W measurement of the 350x frame that you shipped was for $25-30 with UPS and if so could you let me know so I can tell the seller what size it can be. I guess it might be the wrong thing to do by keeping the motor bolted into the frame and shipped that way because it might be to heavy. Whats your opinion? Do you think its wise to ship the motor bolted into the frame because if the UPS handlers are to rough with it and bang it around this might lead to breaks the motor cases or mounting location on the cases? Or I am I just out to lunch think that the cases could break where its mounted to the frame? If anyone has past experience with this happening please let me know. Maybe I should just ship the motor seperate?
Thanks 350x man

Hey 350xman, I've had heavy stuff badly damaged by UPS. I don't think I would ship the engine bolted into the frame. Ask the guy to crate it and bite the bullet on the extra shipping. I build wood crates when I ship engines. The last 350x engine I shipped w/crate weighed in 116 lbs, but I forget what shipping was. I think it was around $83, it's been a couple of years. On the frame, as long as the guy doesn't make the box over 1.5 inches longer than the frame itself, it will be under their oversized category. In other words, have him lightly pad the grab bar horns in the back and the round triple tree tube in the front. if he goes overboard, it will be over. I basically build a large rectangular box around the frame. He also can't exceed the width by much either. Just have him wrap that puppy in cardboard to resemble a rectangular box. Make sure you tell him to clearly mark the box "UP" so the frame sits in the normal position inside the box. Otherwise, they won't care what position it's shipped in. I don't know the overall dimensions of the finished box, but I do know you cannot waste any space - especially on the length. Good luck. Bob

Shipping rates have gone crazy.

I use toship frames for about 35$ and motors from 60$ upwards....

My crate 350X motor cost 100$ to ship to me. But, it's a heavy motor.

The "oversized package" is what screws ya. The Banshee frame I shipped was 120$ from East coast to West....

I recently shipped a 350x frame and it was nearly 100.00 for ups because in the past couple months they have changed what they call oversized. I went to a local place that ships ups and fedex and sure enough it was about 35.00 less. Still more than i was planning to spend but about 2/3 the money...
