Maier Plastics Color Matching ...

I am considering buying new rear plastics from Maier for the 250R. Anyone use/purchased Maier fenders? I am curious if the Maier "red" will matchup with (or at least come close) to the factory "red" for the atc 250r ? Rockymountain ATV and Calatv have decent prices on rear plastics from maier, original OEM are twice the price, any input is appreciated.

Thanks on the info. the stock plastics are in pretty good shape, but for $130.00 the shiny new Maier's would look awesome I think, as long as they are not "pinkish" ya ' know... guess, go ahead and buy the plastics, if I don't like'em, maybe someone will pickem up from me for half price or something...hehehe.

If you pick them up from a place like Rockymountain, you can return them if you dont like them. Im pretty sure they even send a return shipping label for you just incase (for free if Im not mistaken).


Ive seen Maiers version of Honda Red, it comes off as a kind of cranberry. Its just a little darker then Hondas color.

Thanks for the info on the Maier Plastics. Nice Tri-Z btw, I wanted to post a pic of my Z (it's been a project for about 5 years now, and I am almost there - anyone know where I might get plastics for the Z? Maier doesn't make'em it seems and Rockymountain doesn't have them either (at least on their site). I am gonna try the plastic polish kit and see if I can bring the white back, and I have a set of OEM decals off e-bay...

Dont buy the rears from them, buy them here (half the price of maier). You can still pick up a brand new factory set for the rear, but for the front you have to go through Maier.

Thanks for the comment, have you seen a fullsize view of my Z? Im almost done here, in a big push for TF. Its going to look a "little" different then what it has. Try to swing the trip to Indiana if you can!!!

I don't think I have seen a full size pic of your Z, where's the link, would love to check it out. The Z's are definitely more rare than the 250R's. I am trying to return both of my trikes to their original near showroom condition, excepting minor mods - pipes, rims, tires, etc.. I am gonna try to polish the white plastic back into shape, but if that doesn't turn out well, then I will likely pick up the Maier White fenders, front and back. If I remember correctly, they only had two basic color schemes classic yellow/black and white/red....seems I remember a black/red combo as well, but its been 20 years. At least with white, won't matter much if Maier matches up...unlike the honda red for the R. I would love to make TF, or durhamton...as I have been looking for people to ride with, especially people that are into these old trikes like I am. Some people collect classic cars, I seem to collect three wheelers - my wife loves me for taking up all the room in our garage...hehehe. I have a 200x (owned since 1985) that I am working on as well for a fun/wheelie machine...thing is totally stock and still runs pretty good, just gotta rebuild rear brakes...other than that, the x is ready to ride as well.

Once you setup an account on Photobucket, and you download pics, you copy the IMG Code under your pic in your online album and just paste it to the thread.

There is a difference color between oem and maier. I think the maiers tend to change color depending on what light you are in, and also just dont quite have the deep luster to them that oem does. They just look a little cheaper. However thats my opinion. If Its going to be a showroom bike I'd go with the oem, if its something that is going to be spectated from 20 feet or more away, then the maier would be ok.
I restored my oem gas tank on my 250r and have brand new mair fenders for the back. The mairs tend to have a more pinksh-red, while the oem has a more orangish-red. But the "new fender look" of having maiers almost makes up for the color difference, cuz nothin can beat that new bike shine. There is still oem fenders available if one is willing to put in the $$.
Give me a week and I could get a pic of both of them side by side for you as I am leaving town until saturday night.

What's wrong with your old plastic? A couple evenings of wet sanding and then a pass with a buffer and your old plastic will come around. The Maier fenders are decent, but they lack the crisp lines of O.E. plastics.

All the aftermarket plastic stinks... MAIER is good if you don't try and match it with any OEM or use a different color.

Such as....

OEM red tank and shrouds, white or black aftermarket fenders. OEM red fenders and white aftermarket tank or try all aftermarket plastic but MAIER doesn't make a tank so you better choose a different color such as white or black etc etc for the tank....

Thanks for the info on Maier plastics, I am heading out tomorrow night with my trikes to get the R carb tuned in (hopefully) and break the Z's new topend in. Once I get the R carb situated, based on the info and advice, I will likely go with the OEM rear fender and do a bit of wet sanding/buffing on the tank and front. The current OEM rear plastics are in good shape actually. Anyone want to pickup the existing rear plastics when I get the new OEM's? Let me know. It will be a bit before I shell out the $$ for the fenders, but hopefully by end of summer.
