Picked up a '73 or '74 ATC70 today. Need help with what year

Picked up this 70 (http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=69755) today. Just want to confirm the year since the VIN codes were way different back then. The guy I got it from looked it up previously and figured it was a 1973 but I just want to be sure. Looks like somebody painted it a darker red like the '74 at some point. How do you tell which year it is on these?

The 73's are orange if there is any original paint left on it. The 74's were red. Also, if there are any tank decals left, the 73 had flames and the 74 had yellow stylized stripes with black stripes in them.

that is a 1973 model if it was a 74 the vin would start 11_______ . fairly low number too . if you need parts fenders decals etc I have all in stock thanks mike

I've been wondering too, are the flames on the tank supposed to be decals or painted on?

the flames on the tank are decals from the factory , I had a NOS tank that we made our decals from so they are spot on see the pic also the rear fender decal, we also have the warning decals for the frame, the choke decal and top of tank decal thanks mike
