OK - I am posting this early to see if there is any interest in taking a ride up Mt Wahington which is the tallest peak in the northeast. This is an easy slow ride with the NHATV club so no pikes peak style runs up the mountain. This is only offered to large groups and you basically need to go with a club. I am a NHATV member, but you do not have to be a member to go up.
This wouldn't take the whole day, so i would throw out the option to do some hard core ripping at the berlin trails in the afternoon. Only thing you need is a drivers license and a registered trike/quad to go up the mountain (oh and a ticket). It would be nice to get a few trikes going up there in a line. A few guys on here already indicated interest, so there will be at least 3 of us going. I figure this will not be offered for ATVs to go up in the next few years.
Heres the details from the www.nhatv.com site:
Mt Washington Hill Climb on Sunday July 29 at 9:30. The ride cost $20.00 per ATV with an additional $7.00 charge if you carry a passenger. You must have two-up ATV to carry a passenger. Mt. Washington Ride requires a ticket. No one will be allowed up without a ticket. Tickets can be obtained at the base of the mountain in the parking lot between 9:00am and 1:00pm. Anyone that shows up after 1:00pm will NOT be allowed up the mountain even if you have a ticket (no exceptions). Anyone that pays in advance and for whatever reason does not get to go up the mountain will not get a refund. There will be Hamburgers and hotdogs available at the bottom for a small donation. You don't have to be a member. Helmets are not required, but recommended. You must be at least 16 years old and hold a valid drivers license. No riding double, except on a two person atv. ATV must have a valid registration sticker.
Anyone caught riding off trails, tearing up trails, racing, doing donuts, not following rules, etc. will have their membership with the NH ATV club cancelled.
Let me know what you think - we can plan a day around it.:beer

count me in paul, i know you can't ride up mt. washington unless your a memeber of a club now, so this is a good time to do it

Nice! I joined the club just for this ride. I figure there will be only a few years left that they will allow atvs up there, so your right its a good time to do it.
We'll setup a time and schedule as it gets closer.
Any others interested?

Hi brrcuda!
I'm interested. I realize that we wont be able to horse around much but the scenery will make the ride exciting and like you said maybe we can rip-it-up on a different trail later.
Depends on my scedule but I'll do my best to keep july 29th open. Later, Dan.

OK - 2 and a half weeks til this ride. the ride up the mountain is only like 8 miles, so that will go quickly. Make sure your brakes are in good condition for the way down. 2 Strokes might have to worry about jetting up there - less air per volume = rich. I am taking my 350x so i don't have to deal with jetting.
I have tried to contact the NHATV club about a few trikes going up with me (a member) - they never reponded back. I did see a 200x in their old pics of mt washington on their site - so that gives the OK for trikes to go. Plus they want the money
July 29th is a sunday. I'll come up with a schedule very soon for meeting and such.
I know this is pretty far north - but a nice opportunity.
Make sure your NH registered.

im in paul. i know you need to be regestered and have a drivers lisence. helmets might be mandatory also. do we have to be a member of the club or are guest allowed.

07-11-2007, 07:55 PM
Nice.
They specifically say that you dont have to be apart of the ATV club. 20 dollar fee to go up, license + registration. No helmet rule, so your discretion on that. I might not wear one, NH and all.
Im a NHATV member, so point at me if any issues.
You ever been to those trails up there in berlin? We can hit those in the afternoon.

07-11-2007, 08:33 PM
did 110 miles up there a couple weeks ago. not on the sucseess trails but the trails around. we drove right passed the trail head. we also found a little pit up there not far from the parking lot. its a haul to get up there though thats the only probelm. can you ride this sunday if so call me. small crew this sunday me and the old buck. (henry) its a good 1.5 hours to mt washington then another 1 hour to berlin. also alot of traffic on the way home.

110 miles - thats ridiculous.
Yeah i dont know the trails up there but want to check it out. If you know of anything closer, Ill look at the maps and see whats up there.
I do know the conway traffic is bad in the summer.

Alright peeps - i've been getting alot of PMs and posts to go riding from a few different members on here over the last few weeks, so here is the chance to do it.
Let me know if your interested, we can meetup in Manchester, NH or somewhere central and head up from there. Should be a good time.

Hey shawn, check the original post in this thread for the only details that I officially have from nhatv club.
I plan on getting to the parking lot by 10-10:30am to go up the mountain. I think deepa and dracula are going - but not 100% sure. We could meet out by you or in concord. Need to figure out the fastest way up from here.
Figure it will take an hour to 2 hours to go up mess around, check things out and head back down. From there its open on what trails we hit. We can hit berlin or ossipee as we discussed.
I'll keep you up to date - anybody else a definite for this ride? 'll be taking my 350x or my new 250r.

im in for sure on the 29 rt 16 is the quickest for me. im thinking we should ride the new durham trails on the way home. there located onff rt 28. kind of on the way home.

KFX - Its about 2 and half hours for me to get up there from my house. Depending on who comes out for the ride to meet up, if its just me i'll probably meet you out in rochester early AM.
Durham sounds cool - Im up for any suggestions guys. Ill ride anything.
Talked to deepa and he cant make this one.
Hey edog - As far as I know, from 9:30 to 1:30 tickets are for sale at the gate area. Past 1:30 no atvs are allowed up. So seems to be an at your own pace kind of thing and go up anytime in that timeframe. I never have been up with an atc, so we'll have to all learn together on this one.
Ill keep you updated.

Looking at the Map - what about the ME spot? Sort of on the way back home. I can get registered for ME if need be.
Dracula - you up for this ride still? Let me know so I can figure out my schedule of getting up there. If you can, i can help get you up there in my truck.
The only thing is i have not heard of any rain dates? Usually they email me when events are cancelled a few days ahead of time though.

Hi folks! I'm planning on going. I just put the Tri-Z on the lift for a little "freshen-up".
Also dropped the DRaCuLa and am going for a little lighter username.
brrcuda, I'll be driving up from rt9-89s-93n, don't think we'll be able to hook up unless we met somewhere close to that route. I'm also trying to get my buddy with the 200x to go so I might have someone to ride up with. Later, dan

edog no need to mess with the jetting your just going to be idleing up due to speed restrictions. greg have you posted your stuff for sale yet?

07-20-2007, 08:56 PM
this thing is starting to come together. Cant wait guys.
Im no physisist but the way i thought it was, is that the high elevation has less oxygen molecules per volume - more spread apart, thus i think a 2 stroke would get real fat up there. Might want to run it a little lean at first. Anybody confirm that, cause i need to think about it too if i take my 250R.
Paul
badasskfx
07-20-2007, 09:01 PM
paul you are right. no need to lean out the mix for this ride you will be locky to burn 5 oz of fuel. its like 12 miles and well be lucky to brake 20 mph

Been getting questions on tickets - tickets are sold from 9am to 1pm. After that, nobody goes up. I am thinking we get there at like 9:30 now just to make sure everthing goes smooth with tickets and such. 20 dollars to go up- you need drivers license and registration. No helmet required!!!!
The weather looks good but too early to tell officially- so keep an eye on that this week.
Meeting Up - plan on 9:30 at the parking lot at MT Washington. Just look for the trikes - thats where i am. I drive a black gmc sonoma if you didnt know already.
I might meet up with shawn/greg early out in rochester , if i am riding up by myself. I'll let you know as we progress. I could also meet Dan in Concord. Its nicer to ride up with others.
Afterwards - i does seem logical to ride down south more since most of us are from southern NH. Traffic on both rt16 and 93 will be difficult later on sunday afternoon. Shawn I'll call you this week to discuss trails we can hit. Thanks for the help there man.
"lefty" will be there too.

Yeah Shawn - we'll keep an eye out for the weather.
Ok - we are going to go to New Durham trails after the Mt washington ride. Since most everyone is from the south, it just makes sense.
Sorry Edog. Your the only northerner but come on down with us, doesnt seem too far from your town. Stretch the legs on that 250r and rip it up with some other trikers.
Dan - Ill call you to see whats up.
Doesnt look to be too big of a triker crowd, as usual, but I tried. Should be a blast guys as always. Figured we would get some mass. trikers to come up. KFX is bringing some of his big bore buddies too.

Hey KFX - Weather not looking too good, so far. Checked the still cams up there today before it rained in NH and totally covered with clouds. There was no information on NHATV website or club letter about Rain dates. I know the club had a 3 day event thing up there in Berlin. At this point i did not get any cancellation emails for the ride or that weekend event. So since they are up there, i am sure the club is going up the MT regardless.
The only thing that sucks it will be nothing but clouds from a 1000 feet up. We can make an executive decision tonight on what to do. Keep an eye on the weather. Id really like to go up when it is clear.
There are other club rides in August but need to join those clubs to go up.

Another badass ride boys. Took some crappy pics but left my camera connected to my computer at work.
Got home at 9pm last night. Tired from the heat but not sore at all. Ran that 250r hard on those trails though. Now time for a quick teardown / chassis rebuild.
Think Michigan Dunes!!!!

Got the NHATV club newsletter this afternoon.
310 ATVs went up the mountain that day. There biggest turnout yet. They also stated that the weather was the best in many years of the event.
Might go up next year too. We'll see.
