Well guys i just wanted to update my post from a week or two ago asking about whats compatible between the tecates/kx's. I want to thank BGM for all of the help and anyone else that threw in some ideas.

I bought the clean looking roller from preddy05, and just got off the phone with someone that has a pre 90 kx500. The bike runs good has a new top end and new powervalve(s?) (does this mean its updated to a 90-04 top end?) Anyway everything should be settled up for in the next week and all i need to do is pick the stuff up and away i will go.

Gonna go for the flat tracker look, it will be lowered a little, very stiff, an extended swinger, and barely ridden.

I plan to rob everything for the motor/electrical from the bike and then i wont need to splice or mess with anything. I should have some pics of the bike and a little more details in a couple days. I should have this stuff picked up in the near future and under the knife by august...

That roller Mike had was sweet! This makes three KX500 swaps going on here if and when Scott gets his moving.

You might want to pick up a set of used KX500 front motor mounts and see if they bolt onto the Tecate frame and KX5 motor. It would save you the work of custom making some mounts. They might fit.

The pre 90 KX500..if its an 89 you will have the "new" 89-04 powervalve setup and if not you will likely have the same KX500 motor I have. Pick up a manual on the KX500 as it will answer a lot of questions.

i'm pretty sure its an 87, it also has new piston/jug. I really liked the roller and thankfully he is helping me out with storage for a couple weeks or else this wouldn't happen at all. I'll pick up a manual on ebay for both machines and start checking things out. I work at a machine shop so i dont think the mounts will be too much trouble as long as the main bolts on the cradle will work and align properly. I'm really excited to make something a little different my cousin has a banshee but i just didn't feel in control of it, so i'm hoping this will be a nice alternative.

Oh yea the good news is the KX is complete and running as is. I'm sure someone will say to restore it instead but i love to cut 'em up. My dart is cut and welded, so i figure why not do the same with the other toys...

I think I can safely say a KXT 500 (65hp) will be a good match against the Shee.

Screw restoring the bike, resto/mod the trike and never look back IMO.

I think I would rather make the trike into a play machine vs a flattracker. Even a MX'er looking trike like the one in the pic.

yeah i dont which way to set it up yet. looking at all options. i definately like the looks of the one with the fast trekkers on it. would love to get my hands on a +2 calfab as well, but yeah right. just might have to send it out and have moose53 do an extension on it.

Thats about the style i'm looking for, so thats called a MX machine, what if i throw some hoosiers on the back? In reality i just want to buy some micro sprint tires and i need something to put them on. Plus i bet that thing would fly on a paved road with some soft compound tires. I guess my ideas different than what i was trying to describe. I still want a decent suspension so i dont ruin my back on bumps...

Its whatever you want it to be.

In reality don't listen to us, build the machine you think is cool and don't sweat other's opinions.

I think hoosiers front and rear would be cool. Just a little tip..a Honda ATC 250R Douglas 10 inch front rim will bolt onto the Tecate hub and give you a very very broad selection of tires.

As for pavement riding, FUN!!

I'm building mine so its ready for everything. Some trail riding, MX but mostly for freeriding in the pits/beaches around here.

I'm gonna for a something like the ohtsu front tire with the 'bar' style tread, and i have some 8 inch beadlocks for a honda lug (400ex hubs) that i figured the duro or hoosiers would look good on. But i dont want it slammed to the ground or anything, like i said, it still has to be functional...

With the right rider and a correct set-up it should be much more than just a match...

Yeah I know, just don't want to start a pissing match. Shee's can be fast and if you don't get the holeshot you might be licking your wounds.
