My 250R runs!!! I started a complete tear down in November '04 and just now got it all back together. I still need some odds and ends, but it runs. I don't have a thumb throttle yet. So, I just had throttle cable out there hanging in the breeze. I only intended to take it up the driveway, but I took it down the block because I couldn't resist. I took it slow because everything is brand new and I had no throttle. I couldn't help but think "what the hell is wrong with this thing, I thought these things are supposed to be scary fast". I then realized that I've never ridden a two-stroke and that these thing have powerband. I opened the throttle a pinch and holy crap! She' started to scoot and I could feel the front end wanting to climb.

All and all, it wasn't a bad shakedown. I need some loc-tite for my couter shaft bolt. I also had some gas dribbling out the upper vent tube on the carb when i stopped. Lastly, will the right side of the engine make noise? There is an audible whir in that area, but nothing you're gonna be able to hear disctinctly if you step away from the bike. It fades out once you open the throttle a little. I had to get new cases, so every bearing in it is brand new (counter balancer too). I didn't change the big end of the rod because it checked out tight upon inspection. I'm gonna do a HUGE write up in about two weeks.

Lookin' real good!!
That's an 85 right? What pipe you got on it......looks like ESR? I just heard mine run for a bit today too, for the first time in nearly 10 years. I didn't get to ride it yet though. So that's two of them today that just sparked some life:)
I just tubed some fuel into the float bowl since the tank is off right now.
That is one sharp ride you've got there..........keep up the good work:cool:
I don't think you should hear much noise from the engine or balancer at all.............plus you said all the bearings are new.
The R motors are a hair noisy at idle..........I've heard fresh ones that still have a bit of noise. You're probably okay.
Just go with your gut. If you think it sounds bad, have someone who knows them check it out.

I think it's the usual case of being too attentive. You're talking to the guy who sits in fear for a month because the new engine he just put in his truck is making a ticking noise and it just HAS to be a lobe on the cam going flat. Nevermind the fact its actually an exhaust leak from the header.

It was funny taking it down the street because a group of kids had formed and were staring. They wanted a wheelie, but I showed them the throttle cable with no throttle on it and they relented. Plus, I'm not show boating something I've never ridden before. Oh, yes it is an ESR pipe. It showed up this afternoon and that's what kicked all this off.

Your trike looks AWESOME! wooo always good to see something so fresh!

Your swinger is DYING for some decals though. Might just be me, but I think the "westcoast" stickers look sick as ever.

Nothing beats a never been used trike!

As for the kids beggin the wheelie, you'll learn soon enough. It might not be on purpose but you will learn. LOL

LOL, lots of questions. Yes, it is a Westcoast swingarm and that was about the ONLY good thing about buying this bike. I've got decals from x.system for it, I just need some pics to know how they're supposed to go on. I've been starting too many topics lately :postwhore , so I'll wait a while for the pictures on how they're supposed to go on. The bars are Renthal 400ex. I've heard alot of good things on the board about them. They might be a pinch narrow in the clamp width, but still just bolt on. They'll feel nice for a taller rider like me.

LOL! That's a catch glass for the dribble I had after I shut it off. I feel ALOT better about my noise after searching the boards. http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=35512&highlight=250r+noise . Hopefully I won't get too cocky after pulling off my first full case split engine rebuild. :naughty:
