G'day guys, is there anything special I need to know about taking apart the final drive unit on my 250sx? I have taken the axle out and removed all the bolts holding the drive unit but I still can't get the drive unit apart.
The drive unit will move about an half an inch to the left but then seems to hit the drive shaft. Any suggestions would be great. Once I have got the drive unit apart I am looking to replace the bearing in the shaft is there anything here I should know about? I have the manual but this is the first time I have taken a bike apart  . Thanks for your help.

You need to disconnect the drive shaft and then things should come apart easier.

I guess that is the problem, how do I disconnect the drive shaft? I removed the rubber from the top end of the shaft but I don't see anything I can disconnect.

Adam, not sure which bearing you're looking to replace. "The bearing in the shaft..", if you mean driveshaft u-joint or swingarm bearings, the entire swingarm must come off. If you're meaning axle bearings, those can be changed with swing arm intact (just remove right and left hand axle bearing housings).
If you've taken axle out and (4) bolts on either side of final drive, (8)total, the final drive should slide back off of driveshaft. With that out of the way you can slide driveshaft away from transmission. Then you must remove locknut from (RH) pivot bolt. Takes a special socket, around $50.00 oem Honda. I made my own from old 1" socket, welded (4) 3/16" keys @ 90 degree angles from each other, to outside of socket. With pivot bolt out, swingarm should slide right and out.
It has been awhile since I took mine apart, so this is all from memory. I had to replace rubber boot when I got it. If your boot has any rips or tears in it, I would replace it now while it's apart. It's very important for keeping water and dirt out of bearings and gears!
Hope this helps, any more questions just ask.
