Not really getting any good responses from another site, So i might as well post it here

I thought my 185 had a blown head gasket.... But it has too much compression for a blown head gasket, It starts first pull cold, it idles really good, and and it runs all day and it can climb hills no problem.

But lately it does seem to have problems accelerating. It lugs for a few seconds then it starts picking up again. It sounds like it isn't getting the right fuel and air mixture. But no matter where i move the E-clip on needle it still does it. All does is keep it from hitting the maximum RPM. Does it sound like the jetting is off?

The timing on the spark was way off, I got that sorted out. It ran a little better.
Think my Coil or CDI might need replaced.

Where is that gunk coming from on the engine head? I'm really stumped on this. I am 99.9% its the head gasket.

Anyone got any Ideas? I'm tearing the head down this winter

The carb is clean, no gunk, But i went through with a jet cleaner/carb cleaner kit. It still runs the same as it did before.

One problem that i need to fix for sure

Instead of an actual thick rubber hose from the carb to the air cleaner box, they're is an inner tube their, i guess my cousin put it on there a long time ago when the carb was rebuilt last. Everytime the engine intakes, the tube contracts causing it to choke out. So i think this could be a big factor in the way it runs. Could i but a durable rubber hose from autozone or a hardware store to slap on there?

I'm going to replace the intake hose when i get money. I'm rebuilding the top end this winter, I just want to get it running good enough to putt around on until then

Yeah that innertube intake setup isn't really great. What shape is the air filter and exhaust in?

Air filter is wrecked, I got one ordered.

Exhaust system is all stock and it is in great condition for a 27 year old bike
