I have always heard rumors that honda started a development on a 500r but the info. on these are more scarce than 87 model R's & X's! As far as a 200r i have never heard of honda doing anything on this. I have known 200r's were 250's sleeved down by consumers like us ,but i never knew honda had their hands on it at the factory level.
I found this but it hardly proves anything, besides i found a couple of errors on some of the model listings.

it is known that the atc200r and atc500r went into to pre-production phases, Mike Coe talks about the atc500r that they had in their hands, only a few were made and it was agreed it had way too much power for the average person. I read a 3&4 wheel atv article that was about the 200 class of racing and how the lawsuits stopped honda from released the atc200r. There is stuff about the atc500x , Mickey Dunlap talked about it on another atv site. There is alot of stuff out there that we don't know much about, in 83, honda tested a atc480r, it was raced in the baja 500 also, it was agreed it had too much power to the average person. The pro's could ride it easy, but the average person couldn't. I remember seeing a service honda search of a 85 atc500r service manual and owners manual, also there was a 88 atc250es(big red), that at the tme, nobody thought existed. A few of those have surfaced. At one time, there had to have been afew atc200r, atc500r, atc500x and atc480r, but they all met the same fate as the HRC race bikes(for the most part),THE CRUSHER.

There are members on here with ATC200R's though they are ex race trikes and not production models.
