ok i had finaly done it. not i didnt learn to type yet but close. i have confirmed that the 450 rear suspension does fit in a 85 /86 250r with no modifications! basicaly i used an entire rear end from the 05 450r i had and started lookign and mesuring. the biggest mod i had to do was use the bushings from the r swimgarm in the 450r swinger. i could not use the 450 shock due to clearance issues but if you use the 250r linkage and shock the 450r rear end is a direct bolt in. the only mod you have to do is take a file and take a few thousanths off the swingarm wher ethe rear most inkage bolt connects. i used the 450r rear caliper and swingarm and axle and used the 250r shock and linkage for simplicity reasons. her eis a pic fo my most recent score and the end result with the 450 rear end.

What's the length difference? And did you weigh it to see how many pounds this saves?

about -1

Roughly half the weight. The entire rear end feels lighter than the R swinger

Sits about 3" higher now. Its nice

I have a complete 450 rear end on mine, i like it other than the fact that it sits a cpl inches shorter overall height that is.

Brapp - you evil genius - looks swell - it looks to be shorter than stock from the picture. What does this do for front end lift? How it the chain alignment? Right on the money?

Nice work BTW.

Timmoy! hey I'll get some actual dimensions saturday if he doesnt sooner. Chain lines up, raises the seat height up (Makes it steer like a 350x, as he said on the phone), and appears to give some more ground clearance under the engine. Its bad ass , the bike cleaned up nice from what it originally was

This was posted before about the swingarm fitting right? I think Brandon has a 450R swinger on his MX trike now?

Still cool regardless. :D

the chain alighnment apears to be spot on and if it is off its less than a 1 /16 inch. i tried usign a lazer do check it but its awkward. i think i am gogn to go with a 88/89 trx dogbone its shorter and willput ride height back to normal.or close to it.

So it's the exact same length as a stock R swinger? How about where the shock linkage hooks up, is it in the same spot (meaning the ride height would be the same)?

Nice job Brapp !

Did you ride it yet ?

Are the rotors and caliper pistons of a larger size then the R had ?

well make a logn story short i have nto been able to rid eit much die to a fried clutch but i willbe bringign it out this upcoing weeknd on hazelton ride. i do feel the brakign action is bette rthan the stock 250r unit and it does increase the ride height and the travel it sits abotu 2 inches higher and adds another inch travelwhen used with the 250r dog bone. i think it actualy rides bette rthan stock. this triek is rimarlily goign to be a woods trike so the =1 willdo a world of good for me. and i hope to put some serious seat time on it this weekend comign up. yo shoudl coem out and ride with us!

I imagine with a lighter rear end you should have a quicker reacting suspension then, follow the bumps better but at the same time should be a bit stiffer ?

with this can you use the 450r linkage, to keep the ride height the same, or will it not work at all?

What do you want to know? Its a wheelie machine with a far superior braking power. You can really tell the weight isnt there when you ride it, its like a feather ;)

Hey Brapp & Wheelie pop, I was just looking at the 450 today in a showroom and out of all the models it looks like there is a possbility?? that the 450 swingarm buffer could adapt to the 83/84 R swingarms!

It's on the opposite side so you would turn it upside down of course and it has two bolt mounts on side instead of one like on R and it would be really lucky if one of the two bolts would line up with the R bolt hole but I'm sure a remedy/solution for that could be figured out.

Most machines I saw, the buffer does not even lay on the swingarm, they are more or less aside of it, not so with the 450 though.

Not sure if both machines are at your house Brapp but could you guys eye it up, do a little measuring to see if it might work? I'd really apprciate it!

If it would, that would be fantastic !!

Here is the stock one just in case the machine isn't there, won't really help much but I had the pic's so might as well post them.

The R bolt hole is about 7&1/2" from the inside center of the front curve and about 1&3/8 down from top, it's approx 2&1/2 " wide (height actually) at the bolt hole area and the total lenght is about 8" from the inside of the center of front curve.

The width is exactly one inch.

I didn't have my slider with me or I would have an even better idea if it will work.

The 450 was a 07 or 08 model, not sure what year yours is or if the buffer is exactly the same ? I do know it's not as long as the R's, maybe 5 or 6" ?? but it still would work I think, even though it's shorter.
