The silencer on my '84 R is pretty trashed. I'm not 100% sure what brand it is, but it's black and really old, and definitely not stock. It's really loud. I want to get a quieter one, but am having troubles finding any. Any help? Thanks.
whats trashed about it??? you got a pic of it?

Shouldn't be a problem finding one on eBay, OEM or aftermarket. DG is a good replacement for the stock silencer, I think they still make them.

It's just old and really loud, obviously needs repacked, but I think it's too old to be repacked, only newer silencers can be.
You can kind of see it in these older pictures:

I can't really tell from the pics, but you might be able to drill out the rivets and repack it and put it back togather.
thats what I did with mine...

I am not 100% sure,But I had an r with a similar silencer.I think it was a cobra. But dont hold your breathe!!! :D I have been known to be wrong.I think you should try to repack it too.If you screw it up,you wanted a newer one anyways. At least you'll remember what you did wrong in the future.Good luck.

Looks like a Cobra silencer to me. I have one on my 85 and they are cake to repack.
Mine was sounding raspy when I let off throttle and drilled out the 2 pop rivets then the whole thing slid right out. The packing that came from factory had a big hole burned in it.
I got some good packing, (Answer brand I think) wrapped it, taped it and installed it. I installed pop rivets again and made a world of difference in sound and performance.
The packing they use from the factory seems crappy and cheap.

Come on man lets not turn this into a picture thread . I vote for cobra as well. Its long like a bassani but doesnt look quite right to be one

Bassani's have a larger diameter than that pipe, or at least so. Also it looks like the pipe has a larger end piece compared to the overall width of the silencer.
I will have to agree with everyone else then. :D
