View Full Version : 350x lighting?

I finally got the parts and pieces needed to get the 350x running well, did a valve adjustment and carb tweaking today and she's running strong now! :w00t:
but.......
I did notice something odd with the lights, they actually get dimmer as engine rpm's increase above a low idle.
At idle, the lights shine bright, then flicker as you come off idle, then shine dimly at normal running rpm's.
I'm a mechanical rookie, but I'm an electrical retard, anyone have any ideas where to start? :wondering
Thanks in advance for any help!

There is an alternator lighting coil and a voltage regulator that need to be tested with an OHM meter. You'll need a manual for the place to check and the specs. Make sure all the connections are clean and tight too. If the VR is about to die, you'll pop both bulbs real quick and they aren't cheap...

Ok..sounds like a good plan ..it started raining today so maybe that's a sign I need to spend some quality time troubleshooting today. It does'nt sound like a regulator based on the bulb blowing you mention, as mine are actually getting dimmer at higher rpm.
Sounds like a vibration related ground issue?

I would check the grounds. BOYS AND GIRLS, The trx450's (06/07) bulbs work in the 350x. If something was going out they woudnt get dimmer when reved.

You don't think the lighting coil could be on it's way out? As RPM's increase the output decreases?? Just a thought....
How much are the 450R bulbs??

I dont see how it could. Its going to be all or nothing. Sometimes if the coils end up rubbing on somthing everyonce and a while you will get a flash but consistantly nothing. I would check the regulator Thinggy.
Not shure about the TRX bulbs i flipped my friends in a race and it mangled the headlight. SO i pulled the bulbs and tossed them in one of my X's

I'll have to check Service Honda but Howdy found us some good ones at NAPA for short money, I'll have to find that post...

The napa part number is HM202. I used those but didnt like them they realy wernt bright compared to the stock ones. They where like $20 each. Your better off getting them from honda.

My X did that when I first got it and a friend's 300EX also had this problem. It's a bad connection and/or regulator problem. I bought a universal 12 volt regulator from Dennis Kirk for like 15 bucks and it fixed mine right up. On my bud's 300 it was just a bad connection though... Check for both.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll go through it with a fine tooth comb this coming weekend, we're loading up all the machines for a 10 day trip to our cabin in Montana. I'll have some time then to check it out real well. I'll post back what I find.
