Ok here is the issue I'm having with my 225. Just put new oem rings into a excellent std bore cylinder. had valves ,seets done too. New valve seals after checking valve guides and they too were still within specs. Started it up, runs great, no smoke until after it runs for 10 minutes? It won't smoke at all when cold and it is white smoke. I've put used rings and pistons into a slightly worn cylinder and have it run and not smoke period so I can't understand what Ive done wrong or overlooked.
Anybody else run into this same problem? :wondering

did you ball hone the cylinder before the new rings? If you didnt they may not be able to seat.....

welcome to the world of Yamaha's they smoke but don't die, Honda's never smoke but always die, Kawasaki's don't smoke, never die , but you can't find parts!

Thanks for the input but I did hone the cylinder with a 3 arm adjustable hone . This is a stupid question but is there a top and bottom side to these Yami rings? I don't remeber if it was the top or 2nd ring that had the letters NR on
it. The manual didn't give any indication which way to put the letters so I took it that they could go either way up or down. I'm used to Honda rings being marked so these Yami's have got me wondering. Thanks for the input guys

I think I found the problem, after I tore the top end back off too reinspect, I noticed the oil ring end gaps were inline with each other(within a 1/4 inch). I don't know how I managed to do that but I'm hoping this was the culprit to my problem. Apparently after the engine oil warmed up to temp it would slide passed the ring gap easier I guess. We'll see tomorrow after I get it back together. Keeping my fingers crossed
