After this last ride I went on when all machines Failed (including my new YFZ) I realized my Blaster is a much better quad than I have given it credit for. It has yet to let me down. I have a new frame and a lot of upgrades in the shed for it for when I get back. Which of these two widening techniques should I choose? I love the +3 +1 a arm set up, but the bolt in widening kit is a lot cheaper and in my opinion plenty strong enough for what I will do with it. However, my a arms are pretty worn out and I like the fact that I only have to replace the tie rod ends on the after markets. What do you all think?

I bought a J&J customs kit for our old TRX90. I will not buy another and it was expensive to get set up.

I would 100% buy the extened a arms.

You know I have to study other things when I am on the pot.

Was that J&J kit that much trouble? What kind of problems did you run into?

I asked the seller of the A arms about the shock set up and they told me no other stock shock will work propoperly. No Blaster, YFZ or the Banshee shocks I already have. now I am looking at a rediculous amount of money to improve the ride stability of this quad. Even with buying new A arms to go along with the extesnsion, I will still be way below what it would cost to use the after markets A arm set up. I think I may be leaning towards the extension kit right now. Any one else have any ecperiance with this sort of thing?

By the way, what would a decent set of after market shocks cost me? I am not looking for the best, just somehting for some hard trail riding.

LonesomeTriZ

They bend that easily? Well crap, I really do not want to drop a g note on the front of this thing.

The j&J kit just wasn't bent perfectly. I had to buy lots of flat washers to get it to fit perfectly. Then to get the cent sections to quit moving up I had to tighten it so tight that it started to bend in the frame tubes. It dirt it handles well but here we ride mainly sand. The kit made the 90 so wide that it was almost as wide as it was long. THat is a terrible thing to have happen it makes the machien handle like crap. One of the atv mags done an article on that awhile back, you should really read it.

Do you know which mag? Are there other brand name kits?

Ask Scooter. His blaster is the bEsT!

I think I have seen his. His is a full race machine. I am not looking to do that. I just want to make a few improvements.

If you are comfortable with your blasters stock suspension, you could always buy a nice set of used oem arms off of ebay to replace the ones you have. Replacing ball joints on aftermarket arms isnt cheap, but they do tend to last a while. Basic aftermarket shock setups are going to start at around 350 bucks.

i would check ebay for a used aftermarket front end (a arms and shocks) youll be better off in the end

dont forget you might need longer brake lines or cables

I have been searching off and on ofr a good used set. But no luck so far. I am afraid to buy used shocks. People usually get rid of them for a reason. Unless I find a cheap set of rebiuldable shocks, it may cost me more in the long run.

if i was you i would either buy the arms or leave it stock . those bolt in widening kits are going to make your blaster handel bad because your a arm mounting point is being moved out away from the frame and steering stem witch will make the a arms move on a different plan then the tie rods causing bump steer .

I did not think of that. I do beleive you get what you pay for. But it would seem that I have to go from one extreme to another. I do not want to spend the type of money that come with the A arm kit. But I also think I would be defeating the purpose if I use that extension kit. From what you all say it is junk. I have to find a good compromise here.

try burgard, i know someone on here was saying they sell their blemished ones really cheap and you can get unpianted ones for like 300 bucks. not sure how true this is, but its worth giving it a shot. another good point on changing the arms is the balljoints in the stockers suck, if you break one you need to replace the entire arm and thats like 125 bucks an arm. it was a bit expensive, and the wifes been all over my butt about my spending  but i couldnt help it, performance costs money. ridng my blaster now is totally different feeling then the stock set up, well worth the investment i spent.

What did you do about shocks?

that was me that said about Burgards selling them unpainted for $300. ive been buying stuff from him for 12 years. regular price is $360. he sells them on ebay also

with the wide Burgards a arms your best bet will be a aftermarket set of Banshee shocks. PEP tripple rates with rezzies are the way to go. Banshee shocks will fit on stock a arms also.

i have a set of works dual rates, pictured are the stockers that were on it. saving up for a new set of elkas with remote ressies all the way around.

I do not need something high dollar. I just want something that will handle the extra width. Like I said, I really do not want to dump another grand into this thing. After buying the A arms and the stuff to make them work, the shocks will put me way over the top. What would be a good compromise? Should I use the stock Banshee shocks I already have?

scooterroo

well i have heard of people using banshee fronts, and i have even heard of people using raptor/yfz450 fronts. i think i have even heard of 400ex shocks working.

LonesomeTriZ
08-22-2007, 07:52 AM
I have a 400Ex shock for the rear. That seems to be pretty common. But I still do not see why I cannot use Banshee, YFZ, or even Warrior shocks in the front. They come from heavier machines, so I would think they could handle the extra leverage just fine.

the banshee shocks are a improvement over the stock blaster ones. use them with the extended a arms you mite buy and it'll be

scooterroo

yeah the 400ex and 450r rear shock are great improvements on the rear. i run a 450r rear right now, and the thing handles nice. if you got banshee fronts go for it, i cant see what it would hurt.

LonesomeTriZ

I did some more research and found out the after market a arms put the shock back into its original location. If that is true, won't the Banshee shock riase the front end up?

jason85atc250r

the banshee shocks are just 1" longer.
